Several people suggested that I try iMazing. I paid for it and set it up for backups of my iPad and iPhone.

Things haven't gone well.

I manually initiated an iMazing encrypted local backup of my 64GB iPad while it was directly connected to my Mac via a USB cable. Two hours later it appeared that the backup was complete, but it was still "archiving". I usually take my iPad out for coffee in the morning so I can read the Bangkok Post over a cappuccino. But, I left it home to complete the archiving. When I got home it was still archiving and the progress bar hadn't budged. I aborted the backup. This is after five hours. I have no way of knowing if the backup is good or whether or not the "archiving" process was actually finished.

This morning I had a look at my iPhone in iMazing. iMazing reported that my iPhone was backed up "Today at 07:48:59". Trouble is, at that time it was still 5:30 AM. Is iMazing so 'mazing that it can see into the future?

At that point I decided to quit iMazing, but a dialog box warned me that "You currently have operations in progress." But, when I clicked on the Operations button it returned "No Operations". Well, are there or aren't there?

Have other iMazing users had this sort of experience?

Do you have multiple user accounts on your Mac/Win PC?

I had this issue once, when another account was still signed in.

(Don't take this too seriously. It will get sorted. I'm just trying be a little bit funny. Perhaps too little with a tad too much sarcasm.)

No, no. Not sarcastic at all. There clearly is a problem. I've been using iMazing for a couple of years, perhaps, without a hint of difficulty. And I BU 2 iPhones and 2 iPads. They are all on the same Apple ID (1 of each is mine, the others are my wife's).

A full BU from scratch on a 50% full 256GB iDevice, would take, maybe, 10-15 minutes - something like that. Thereafter, each BU is around 2 minutes.

Notice that he didn't invoke a normal backup but one with encryption. I've backed up numerous times with iMazing but never with encryption turned on. I know that encrypted backups can also be use with iTunes but again I don't encrypt my iTunes or iCloud backups.

I always encrypt now because I got burned once. Someone encouraged me to Reset Network Settings on my iPad. I did. As a result, I lost all my saved WiFi passwords across all devices. It took forever for me to collect all those again. An encrypted backup saves that sort of thing.

Here's something I really don't get. Every time I try to quit iMazing it tells me that I have "… operations in Progress". But, the operations buttons shows no operations at all. How do I fix this?

@Charlie

I take your point completely; but:

I've been using the encrypt option in iTunes for years and iMazing since I got it. The encryption part is so that you can BU your passwords and, more recently, your heath data.

I have never noticed that it took any longer to BU.

There must be some other problem here - it's only a 64GB iPad and he "aborted" the BU after 5 hours.

Also, the iPhone BU, claimed to have completed the BU but the time was wrong; followed by conflicting messages of "Operations in progress" and "No operations".

Not trying to be confrontational, I promise. It's just that the OP's experience is far from normal.

Are you also using iMazing Mini? And, did you go through all the settings for where it is trying ti save your backup? You may need to give iMazing permission in System Preferences > Security & Privacy > Privacy tab? If it's trying to access your original iTunes backup.

I did set up iMazing Mini with a schedule, backup location, etc. I was asked for the password for the original backups, but not for full disk access. (The backups are on an external drive; not on the boot drive.)

The iPhone and iPad backups scheduled for last night seemed to have happened without any error messages. The time reported for the backups is correct.

I no longer get the warning about "operations in progress" when I quit iMazing.

My original bug report (with three items) has been escalated to second level support. I've let them know about the successful backups and seeming resolution of the other problems I reported.

As I suspected, it somehow got sorted….

Great news - at last! This is how it should be.
