Independent volume controls

Say I'm on FaceTime and watching a movie at the same time (or something of the sort) can I change the volume so the person talking doesn't overpower the movie? FaceTime doesn't seem to have a volume slider of its own. In windows it's really easy to change. This one has been driving me crazy

Not sure I understand your problem. If you're communicating with someone on FaceTime, why would you want that person's voice lower than the movie you're watching? Or maybe I'm completely missing what you're trying to do?

I just read where FaceTime can be used on a Windows PC with the Android emulator, however, I'm not familiar with how the sound is handled for it in Windows.

Charlie, If I understand the OP right, they are looking for a way to adjust the volume for sounds on a per app basis. Right now for example, I'm listening to public radio using Safari but if I am editing something in QuickTime Player X the sound from one thing will overpower the other.

@Kylebrod I am currently testing an app called Sound Control that seems like it will do what you want to do. Just started looking at it so I haven't mastered the features but it looks promising. There is also a similar app called VolumeMixer which was discussed here.

I'm pretty sure thatAudio Hijack Pro could be configured to do this as well but it is more expensive than either of these programs. TBH I find the current interface for Audio Hijack Pro a bit confusing and annoying so I haven't tried it to much with that program.

I'm not sure how well these programs would work with FaceTime since it seems ro be designed to lower the volume of other programs when a call comes in.

Yeah this is exactly what I want to do. On windows you click the volume mixer, and you have an slider for each individual app. It's strange to me that I can't do this anymore. I'll check those apps!
and @chscag- Like the other guy said facetime automatically lowers the volume of any backgrounds apps. If you were watching netflix you won't even be able to hear it with it at max volume.

Will do. I tried VolumeMixer for a few days but either it didn't work the way I expected or I misunderstood something n the setup. In some ways it resembles the mixer control in Windows. I suspect I didn't have it set up exactly right.

What I would be really interested in would be a similar app for iPhone. Dont tell me it can't be done because the last Galaxy I had included separate volume controls for Ringer/Notifications, Music, Media and System sounds. Never having to remember to turn up the volume for the ringer after listening to live streaming radio on a Bluetooth speaker, something I do all the time, would be brilliant. Sometimes I wonder if Apple deliberately roll out these "improvements" incrementally to make each new phone or iOS look worthwhile when if they gave us all these features straight up we may not bother to update either out iPhones or iOS for years at a time. Just another form of planned obsolescence I suppose.
