As discussed earlier (http://www.mac-forums.com/apple-notebooks/341963-help-computer-restarted.html), I have recently successfully (and surprisingly easily - go Apple!) swept clean and reinstalled the OS on my MacBook Pro OS 10.11.6. I need now to reinstall drivers for my Canon Pixma MX922 multifunction printer. At Canon (https://www.usa.canon.com/internet/.../mx-series-inkjet/mx922#drivers_downloads_tab) there are three sets of drivers for this printer, and an Apple page (https://support.apple.com/kb/dl1742?locale=en_US) has still another set of drivers. I cannot figure out which one I should install. As a result of my "kernel panic" event, I have become very nervous about installing anything, and I will truly appreciate any advice. (Of course, I installed the printer before "the event" but I don't remember what printer driver I used then.) Thank you.

If you scan through this you will see the drivers for the MX900 series are included with the operating syste OS X.11 and IOS X.12 so you should have to install nothing.

Connect up via USB , turn the printer ON, go into System Preferences > Printers & Scanners and hit the little (+) button and the printer should appear. If you require wifi follow Canon';s instructions.

Thank you. I saw that Apple page too (https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201465). There it lists the Canon 920 Series, so it should be on my Mac. At System Preferences>>Printers and Scanners, when I hit the + button, my MX922 appears, but below it "Software for this printer isn’t available from Apple. Contact the printer’s manufacturer for the latest software."

Another page at Apple (https://support.apple.com/kb/dl1742?locale=en_US) dated September 2015 has a "download" link described as "This update installs the latest software for your Canon printer and scanner." I found that link after searching Apple for my printer driver, so I presume that will install the Canon Series 920 driver. I haven't downloaded it because, as I wrote above, I have gotten a little (very) weird about installing stuff unless I am absolutely sure, but also because I purchased the printer last year (well after September 2015), and don't remember having to go that step. But if it's an Apple download, it has to be safe, right?

(FYI After much Google search, I eventually came to suspect that my kernel panic event, which was never fully diagnosed, may have been generated, directly or indirectly, by an Adobe update. Then, yesterday, I read "Adobe is pulling the plug on its much-maligned Flash media player ... Steve Jobs famously blocked Flash from being installed on iPhones; Android followed ... ." Who knows.)

On realizing the absurdity of the last sentence of the second paragraph of my most recent post, I downloaded and installed the driver at https://support.apple.com/kb/dl1742?locale=en_US.

My printer works fine.

harryb2448, thank you for your input.

We just recently replaced our Canon AIO with the same MX922 model, and I'm surprised Apple didn't guide you to the much more recent version they recently released:
Canon Printer Drivers v3.4 for OS X

No doubt, you may get an update notice in the next few days.

pm-r, Thanks for the heads up. And you were right: I got an App Store update notice yesterday.
Happily, the printer's running perfectly.

pm-r, Thanks for the heads up.

Another heads up for that Canon MX922 printer if's anything like ours set up for wireless printing.

If it's setup using the Bonjour option in the Printers & Scanners Pref Pane, one only gets a window for printing.
If it's setup using a Network option, you end up with: printing, scanning, and utilities, all available from the one print queue window.

A much better option IMHO.

Patrick, My MX922 is connected to my MBP by USB cable. So far, I have used it only for printing and scanning, and it's good. I have not used the utilities only because I haven't needed to, but I am able to access them at System Preferences>>Printers & Scanners>>Options & Supplies>>Utility.

That's sure good enough and you seems to have everything you need working.
