Hi - I make annual family slideshow/movies using iMovie and previously have used iDVD on my old iMac to make dvds to distribute to family members. I upgraded to a new MacBook Pro recently, and I have a superdrive, but I need a dvd burning program. I have the software reinstall drive (and dvds) from my iMac, but I am unable to install anything from them. Any suggestions? I loved using iDVD - the themes were great, and it was very easy to use. Please help?

Great software suggestions from IWT.:)

Another suggestion (if you still have the iMac). You could use it as a dedicated iMovie and iDVD burning device.:)

Hi Ian - and thank you for the welcome!
I appreciate the suggestions and will check them out. I had read about Roxio's Toast but had seen many less than stellar reviews from Mac folks, so I was a little apprehensive. But I am willing to give it a try! I'm not a novice, but not a pro either. I like to make quality productions and have been doing this for many years now - it has become a big part of our holiday family tradition - an annual look at a year of (a very large and geographically dispersed) family's activities. It is mostly photographs but I also use a lot of edited video clips too. I enjoy using the various iMovie features - titles, themes, etc. There are typically 3-5 separate chapters which is why iDVD was so great.
Thanks again for your help.
Cheers!

Hi Nick -
Thank you for the suggestion. I had thought about trying to do that - I got this iMac in July of 2010. It is very full and running so slow. I have been moving things off of it but am still in that process, trying to make sure I don't lose anything important. But I'm on a tight deadline and all my available time this week will be used on finishing this project and getting it burned on discs before I travel for the family holiday. If I were to do that - having created all of the project on my MacBook in the latest version of iMovie - what would be the easiest way to get it onto my iMac so that I could use iDVD?
Thanks,
Kelley

If time is as tight as you're saying. Then maybe you continue as you are...use one of the ideas IWT mentioned...and see how things end up. Maybe you'll come to like & understand the new process enough to stick with it.:)

If you get the current project done...and didn't like the process as much. Then maybe when you have more time...you get the iMac situation figured out...and use the iMac for the next iMovie project.:)

You cannot install iDVD. I'm afraid it "died" quite some time ago.
It still works with El Capitan. Has it stopped working with Sierra?

Kellypn, did you use Migration Assistant to transfer all your stuff from your iMac to your new MBP? That will move iDVD across to your MBP.

Burn will be perfectly adequate for your needs rather than pay for Toast.

Still works with Sierra. I just tried it and it works just as it always has.
