Hello Everyone:

I have the new iPhone 16 Pro Max and have had to straighten out a few issues, (running IOS 18) and one is particularly frustrating.

I have the Siri settings on "Hey Siri" only - which ONLY works when I press and hold the button on the right. When I "talk" to Siri as I always did, the visual representation of Siri shows up, but disappears after I finish speaking. This is particularly frustrating.

Any ideas would be sincerely appreciated!

Best to all -

Richard

When you say disappears, do you mean it doesn't give you the results of your query?

First thing, try to do a force restart and see if that does anything.

I don't have "Hey Siri" enabled, so I have to hit the side button to enable it and when I query it for something, I get the response and it remains active until I don't speak for the default amount that it set to time out or if I press the button again.

You might have to reset Siri. This article explains how but basically you just need to turn "Listen for Siri or Hey Siri" off then back on again and set up voice recognition again.

I've tried that twice. I wish I could delete Siri and start over as like we can do with Apps but I don't think that's an option.

I've even "updated" the phone as per Apple tech support.

Too many devices to list
This may occur if Siri on another device is taking over the request. I've had my phone initially pick it up and then stop when my HomePod takes control. Do you happen to have another Apple device nearby when this happens?
