Hi,
I'm a newbie to the forum, though I have been a mac owner for approx 9 years. I have just bought myself a lovely imac 24" 2.16Ghz intel Core 2 Duo, and still have my old and working Blueberry iMac.

I pretty much love everything about my new mac, though I'm a bit miffed that I have to buy either Office for Mac (way too pricey, and it has 'Microsoft' in the title.. YUK!) or download Neo Office (which I have done but it isn't as user friendly as I hoped) to get software anywhere near to what I got for free on my old mac 9 years ago - namely Appleworks (I am running 5.0 on my old mac). I love appleworks and was miffed when I was told at the mac shop that it no longer existed, only later to find that the software is being sold through Apple store on the internet!

Before I spend my hard earned cash, what I would love to know is, is the new appleworks 6.2.9 ok for intel macs as it only says it is designed for OSX and no more, and, if anyone is using it, is it user friendly? Are there any problems I should know about as some reviews seem to imply that it is extremely buggy?

Please help.

PS Great forum, you've already solved one big problem that I had just by reading old posts!!! THANKS

Apple still sell it, but development stopped years ago and it wasn't converted to run on Intel macs.

I'd recommend you wait and see whether Apple releases an update to iWork soon. It's sort of the unofficial successor to Appleworks and whilst not nearly as feature-packed it's definitely going to have a longer lifespan.

Sooner or later you're going to have to ditch Appleworks - either because it won't run or because of file format issues. My advice would be to do it sooner rather than later.

I learned how to type on AppleWorks, but I haven't really given it much thought since then. Maybe there's something to look into here! If you want to be a Mac fanboy, have you considered iWork?

Mac fanboy indeed!............ Mac fangirl actually!!

I haven't really looked at iWork as the free trial was used up as my husband opened every application to see what it was when we got it, and then we got busy doing other bits and pieces (iMovie, iTunes, iWeb etc.) on the mac and a few weeks later when I decided it was time to have a play with iWork the 30 days had finished, so I'll have to go to the Apple Store and play with theirs to see if it has what I need

Thanks for the info, and boo hoo:'( :'( to the slow death of Appleworks (I still have fond memories of Clarisworks!).

Sorry, if it makes you feel any better I've always thought of "fanboy" as gender neutral. If you still have the iWorks on your computer I'm pretty sure that you can still play with it, you just can't save or print documents after the trial period. It's really ace for doing kind of pretty stuff.
