Is it safe to download programming from MacUpdate?

I'm super wary of installing 3rd party things. Is this software/site legit or will I get malware?

Be super wary of trusting them as they seem to have slsipped into the malware trap. Google it and you will see a lot of responses. Here is one from Malwarebytes for Mac, a trusted site:-

Anything you see on Macupdate, don't download from Macupdate.
Look for the developers link, usually on the right of the page, and get it from there.
Macupdate has sadly gone to having their own "installers" which installs the software and other things you probably don't want.
Always get it from the developer's site, no matter where you see it originally.

Just to 2nd or 3rd the great advice from Harry and Craig. Downloading from the developer's website is best.

The developer's website is also the best if you happen to have questions or issue's with the app. If you download from the developer's website...then you already know where to go if there are questions or issues.
