iStat: Yes or No?

I had iStat on my old MacBook Pro, and I am thinking about download it (from iStat) on my new one.

What do you guys think? Is this advisable? Compatible? Safe?

Yes, iStat Menus is highly recommended and safe. Ordering it direct from the developer (Bjango) is the best way to obtain it. They recently came out with a version that includes stats for late model MacBook Pro machines including the TouchBar series.

Just downloaded it. I have no idea how to use it! It's completely different from the old version.

Just let it load up the defaults and later on you can change what you need. It's a very busy bunch of information, that's for sure. I usually go thru each stat and add or remove what I feel is necessary for me. The fluff stuff like the weather and date/time, I usually remove.

This is going to sound dumb. Really dumb.

I installed iStat, but I don't know what I am seeing when I open the app., and I don't know how to read it. The "Help" button has mostly to do with the Install.

With the old iStat, you could see it reading various functions, like CPU and Fan Speed. Like live gauges. With the new one, nothing's moving.

There must be a youtube that explains all this, right?

Assuming you installed the latest version, when you open the control menu, it should look like the image below.



The toggle on each setting displays it or not. You can see what settings I've enabled. Also with CPU & GPU selected you see that I'm only showing the CPU usage metric at the top bar on the right. The bar below that are other options that I can drag to the top bar to make them visible. The other panels are various settings.

Go through each of the settings and decide what you want to show and play around with it.

I could only see what appears in Raz0rEdge's post. But now I see a whole bunch of stuff in the pulldown bar at the top pf the screen (same line that the Apple symbol is on at the left).
