Hello all,

I recently moved from Windows/Android to Apple and am really enjoying it save one problem. For some reason and completely at random I regularly struggle to play YouTube videos and it doesn't seem to be a browser issue as it happens on both Safari and FireFox at the same time. If one doesn't work, the other won't either.

The video bar loads so you can see the video has downloaded in order to play but there is just a never ending spinning wheel. The only fix for this seems to be to reset the computer and then it will work, but then later it may just suddenly stop working again.

I am using the new M1 Mac mini. Any ideas? Sorry if I have posted this to the wrong section, new to the forums but it seemed appropriate.

Thanks!

When the videos stop playing, can you access other sites? Is the spinning wheel just within the YouTube tab? If so, there's no need to restart the computer, just reload the tab/window. I get the same thing happening on my Brave browser with YouTube once in a while. In most cases, the video starts playing as the video is being buffered. But once in a while, the video will buffer, but there'll be no playback, just the spinning wheel. I even get a message saying, "Your video should start soon" or something to that effect.

I just chalk these up to YouTube having issues and reload the video and it almost always works the second time.

Thank you, I updated to 11.3 after posting this morning and so far it hasn't happened! Here is hoping whatever it is was fixed. I did try reloading tab/window but wasn't fixing the issue. Even closing everything down and re-opening it, the only thing that would work is a reset. Hopefully this update has seen an end to that!

I've had this happen before with some videos. I've always suspected the problem was on the server side

I have had the same problem with certain YouTube videos. At first I thought it was a buffering problem but it turns out as Slydude stated, a server problem. Usually a reboot gets things going again.

What's worse is some sites use Vimeo for their video products. With those, any buffering that occurs causes the browser (Safari or Chrome) to lockup. The only way to let loose is a reboot. Safari seems to do a better job of playing videos than Chrome. I have not tried to use Brave.
