OSX 10.10.3., Mail v 8.2, desktop iMac. When creating a new email, the send button (the paper airplane) is missing, forcing me to use manual mail send (message - send). Anyone had this issue?

Right click on the toolbar of the window, select Customize Toolbar and drag it back up there.

joanpaulameeske, start a new email, then in THAT window right click on the toolbar at the top and Customize toolbar will appear, the airplane is in that set.

Hi Jake - thanks for that tip - new to me! :) But just for some illustrations, I opened Mail and from the menu, selected 'Customize Toolbar...' which did not include the 'Send' icon (first pic); then I started an email, re-opened the same item selection and the 'Send' icon is now present magically (second pic) - my question, should this be considered an aberrant feature or a flaw of the app or expected? I believe that is how it is supposed to work. The "send" icon is not needed in the general mail tab because you don't send from there, you send from the screen where you create the email. It's logical to me.

And the 'airplane; is greyed out until you start the message and then it comes to life.

I'd say pretty normal as there are two completely different windows involved, and each one has it's own customized view options.
Make sense to me. :\

I wish it were true! There is no Send/ Airplane option no matter what
Customize Toolbar is chosen.
Thanks for trying. Anyone else?

You have been given the answer. The send button (airplane icon) is only present when you are creating a new message. Otherwise, there is no need for it and no way to make it appear. That's how Mail is designed.

Maybe if you told us WHY you want it there when it cannot be used?

Are you saying that even when you start a new message to someone the Send button ia not in the new message window? With the new message window open does the sind icon appear in the Customize toolbar options.

I'd say a selected screen shot image capture (command+shift+4) posted here from the current poster would sure help to see what their problem might be…
