I have 2 mac studios. Added a folder and file in my documents folder which reside on icloud. On the other mac studio, the folder or file is not there.

Checked all the settings related to this. The icon next to the file is a cloud (but not the same as other folders and files icon status is only in icloud only) . The icon status (the folder or file is up to date between your Mac and iCloud and you can view or edit it immediately, with or without an Internet connection).

What am i missing why not syncing?

I'm sort of guessing here; but from what you say "My Documents folder is on the iCloud", I'm assuming that you have "Optimise Mac Storage" ticked as "On" on your "Main" Mac.

If this is so, then the fact that you don't have the same setting on your other Mac could explain why the Folders etc on the "Main Mac" won't sync with the other Mac.

Could be wrong, of course. Lets see what others have to say.

Here is Apple's guide for sharing.
@MacInWin looking at the link , reviewed and verified how to setup the Icloud on 2nd mac studio. Sync this mac was turned on. I don't need to collaborate to other users since I'm admin on both machines with the same Apple ID and login.

I'm also on the same wifi.

Totally baffled ...

That has nothing to do with it, but I'm glad the restart sorted it. The two machines could be on two different WiFI networks in two different locations as as long as they share through iCloud, it should work. If it ever stops syncing, just restart both to generate a new connection to iCloud.

yes thank you.

Would be a nice feature to have to select to restart a new connection instead to restart computer.

Well, that is an option. to restart a new connection, log all devices out of iClod, then log back into iCloud again. However, that is a longer process that just restarting, which does the same thing as part of the boot process.

You can test if a simple log out, then log back in, of your user account will accomplish the same goal.

@ferrarr thank you for that suggestion. Makes sense. But i don't get why macos does not update when changes are made. Why would the connection to the iCloud be stale.....

Not "stale" but lost. The Internet is inherently unstable, and if there is any glitch along the path between you and the Apple server, the connection can be broken. And the path from you to the server is insanely dynamic, with each individual packet negotiating the path between the two uniquely. Frankly, it's pretty amazing that it works as well as it does.

Disconnects happen. Just reconnect and get on with it and don't sweat it. If it gets to be an annoyance you can look at your DNS setup because some services work better than others and are updated more rapidly when the Internet changes (almost constantly happening).

You are welcome. In re-reading my post, I think I sounded a bit snarky with the "don't sweat it" comment. I didn't mean to be, it's just that disconnects are a reality of Internet usage, which is one of the many reasons I don't use iCloud drive or store Documents/Desktop in the cloud. I want my Mac to work for me, Internet or not. So, if a disconnect happens, just reconnect and go on. As I said, if it gets persistent, check the DNS settings and use whatever the settings are for the more reliable machine(s).
