MacBook Pro (13-inch, Mid 2012) Crashing, Crashing, Crash

Hello all,

Hopefully someone can help me. First of all let me preface this post by telling you what I have upgraded in my machine.

I upgraded the RAM a 3 years ago to max out at 16gb (Crucial)

I installed a SSD 2ish years ago (Crucial)

I took out my Superdrive and replaced it with a HD caddy and my original 750gb HDD, 2ish years ago.

And after those upgrade boy did my Mac fly. It was like a new computer and has worked great for the better part of 2 years.

But recently it keeps crashing. I have noticed it crashing in different ways.

The first way is when I put any pressure on the left side where all the ports are. This crash often makes several lines on the screen and just freezes until I perform a hard power down. It often comes back up with no issues but if i put too much pressure on that side or sometimes the bottom... same story. At this point I try to avoid i sitting on my lap and only put it on a rigid surface.

The other way it has started to crash is when I have Chrome open. It will just crash and put up the Grey restart screen. It restarts and then is fine. There is no clear pattern and seems to happen quite randomly. Crash report attached.

From time to time It will crash and let out 3 beeps which i believe means that it cant detect the RAM. But once again very random and often just starts working again.

As of last week it has been much worse. It started to not be able to see the start up disk, which is located on my SSD, at all. I thought this was it so I took out the SSD and tried to see if I can salvage anything on it. To my surprise everything was still on it! I ran disk utility from another machine and everything came up fine. Reinstalled it and... same thing. Took it out again and was able to boot it up while connected via USB 3.0. It has crashed maybe once or twice since then but did seem better.

Things I have tried:

Opening and Cleaning

Reseting SMC and PRM

Disk Utility

Virus Scan

Things I think it could be:

Logic board (obviously lol)

RAM?

A surge with my power cable (There was a time recently when all this started that I remember by power cable being very hot and my computer in turn before all this started happening. Power was running off a large generator. Cable stopped working but my 2nd charger cable worked fine. Both are apple chargers.)

I am in no way an expert but I am very hands on and have been a mac user for 15 years. All upgrades were installed by me but like I said... 2 years no problems.

And i know it sounds like a lot of issues but I just cant help but try anything to bring it back to life. Like I said before it ran so well a month ago!!

Welcome to our forums.

First, please do not include spaces between the lines of the kernel panic report. Just copy and paste the report as is.

Okay... Have you tried booting the machine in Safe Mode to see if the same error (panic) occurs?

And... with a machine that old, the SATA cable is always highly suspicious as a culprit causing those types of errors. Go thru the easy stuff first before worrying about a bad logic board.

I also was going to mention the SATA cable.

The only other thing I can think of is maybe you’re pushing the graphics too much? I think that is the side the display cable is connected through.n
