Need advice..want to upgrade from 4GB to 8GB. Currently have 1333 MHz DDR3. Can I install 2 x 4GB / 8GB of 1066 MHz. Will this work. Will there be a noticeable difference or must I install 1333Mhz

Welcome to our forums.

Always use the recommended memory for your machine. Both memory module types you mentioned above will not work.

Your MacBook Pro uses this memory:

Maximum Memory 16 GB (Actual) 8 GB (Apple)
Memory Slots 2 - 204-pin PC3-12800 (1600 MHz) DDR3 SO-DIMM

I recommend moving to ddr3L 1600 ram as this memory may be cheaper than 1067 or 1333 ram.

My nephew's mid-2012 13" has been running high density 2x4 ddr3L 1600 ram for more than 6 months with no issues.

Thank you guys for very quick replys. My daughters Macbook Pro...13" Mid 2012. Model 9,2. 2.5 GHz Intel Core I5
Currently running 4GH (2x2 1333MHz DDR3). Want to upgrade to 8GB for extensive college use.
The sales rep at Best Buy sold her 8GB memory.. 2x4 1066 MHz DDR3 which according to the package is compatible with a Mid-2010, Early -2011, Late 2011 Macbook Pro and not a Mid 2012.
Should she return this and what should she purchase or ask for?
I thank you guys in advance.

Thanks will head the advice of the experts and will purchase what is recommended. Quick question though, would the memory sold to my daughter from Best Buy have worked anyway !

The memory would have worked but can't be used in newer laptops, Mac or pc, that need low voltage.

The cpu works with 1066, 1333, and 1600.

Need advice..

I'd check with them as to which compatible RAM modules that will work are the cheapest and use them.

The faster rated modules are often backward compatible but will only run at the original default speed but are quite often cheaper, as mentioned, but not always.

I have never used ddr3 memory that has been advertised as being "Mac" compatible in a 2011 or 2012 MBP as I have always used regular "PC" sodimm modules. Any ddr3 sodimm that meets JEDEC specs should work in a Macbook or PC laptop. This makes sense since MBPs use the same Intel processors found in "windows" laptops.
