I bought this used MacBook Pro over the internet.
Now I noticed that in the Hardware Overview, the systems serial number has been erased and replaced with "SystemSerialNumb".

Am I in possession of a stolen computer?
Is there another way of finding the serial number?

The serial number of a Mac is embedded in ROM on the logic board. Looks like someone has either changed out the logic board or wrote to the ROM which is unlikely. The logic board on that machine is probably not the original. Contact the seller and ask.
