my MacBook Pro (10.6.8) does not read my camera (Nikon D7000) when I connect it with USB; this has never been a problem, since to transfer photos to the computer I just connect the camera card to the computer (actually I have to use an adapter that I connect to the USB port, the actual card reader has also never worked); but right now it IS a problem, since I have a card that is very old and doesn't work anymore, i.e., when I connect it to the computer with the adapter to the USB port, the way I usu do, the computer no longer reads the card; however, I CAN still see the photos if I insert the card in the camera, so I thought I would transfer the photos directly from the camera... but my computer doesn't read the camera when I connect it, I just tried on someone's window machine (Windows 7) and it didn't read it either...

what can I do?

thank you....

Well the operating system is pretty old, and there have been firmware updates for your camera.

Have a look at this link and see if the driver for Mac OS X.6 and the firmware update improve things. What do you mkean an 'adaptor'? The camera should plug directly via USB ino the computer, and do not use a USB hub.

thank you... man, I almost clicked on the big blue "download" button, which of course is just advertising for something...

ok, I clicked on the right one, this is what I got (oh brother):

Attention!

This link will be available within 5 hours and only for your IP Address (191.125.14.164).
After 5 hours, it will be automatically deleted.
Do not use it as direct link to the file. If you want to set link to the file, use this link:

https://driverscollection.com/_4340...Update-v.1.02-for-Mac-OS-X-Mac-OS-X-10.6-free

so what does this mean, it will be "available" within 5 hours? will it then be downloaded (I don't like that, I like to be asked where to put downloads) or do I go back in five hours and click on the link again or what??
(so I have to leave my computer open in case it autom. downloads within 5 hours? why on earth do they do this? I don't understand the purpose...)

but thank you.. I appreciate your help....

Plugging cameras into a Mac or PC is a complete waste of time in my opinion. It's so much easier to buy a cheap USB card reader and plug that directly into your computer instead.

My Nikon only came with software for Windows and that didn't work very well. ;)

did you read my OP? I also always transfer the photos directly from the card... but the card isn't working.. the computer isn't reading it.... I can only see the photos if I put the card in the camera... this is why I wanted to transfer the photos to the computer directly from the camera....

thank you......

ok, so there was a link on top of the page (F-D7000-V102M.dmg), I assumed that was it... I downloaded it, now I have this file in my Desktop dir, D7000_0102.bin.cpgz (why does it put it in Desktop dir?)

this is what exactly? and where do I put it? (I double-clicked on it, no more decompression available, it stayed the way it is...)

instructions here, http://osxdaily.com/2013/02/13/open-zip-cpgz-file/ don't work... got this in command line:

> unzip /Users/<uid>/Desktop/D7000_0102.bin.cpgz

End-of-central-directory signature not found. Either this file is not
a zipfile, or it constitutes one disk of a multi-part archive. In the
latter case the central directory and zipfile comment will be found on
the last disk(s) of this archive.
unzip: cannot find zipfile directory in one of /Users/<uid>/Desktop/D7000_0102.bin.cpgz or
/Users/<uid>/Desktop/D7000_0102.bin.cpgz.zip, and cannot find /Users/<uid>/Desktop/D7000_0102.bin.cpgz.ZIP, period.

don't know what further to do... I'm sick, not feeling well, will continue to look into this tomorrow...

thank you all for your help...

I read your post. Just commenting on the waste of time plugging in the camera. If the card from the camera can't be read by your computer or a Windows PC it might be because the format on the card is messed up and now can only be read by the camera. And since you stated that your Nikon isn't recognized by your computer or a PC, I'm not sure what else you can do.

Like I said above, my Nikon only came with software for Windows and it really didn't work all that well. I didn't try to attach my Nikon to my Mac and used a card reader instead which did work.

I didn't notice what Mac software was being used to capture the photos from the camera and card, but has the Image Capture.app been used or tried if it wasn't being used previously??

I'd suggest it's worth a try using it if it hasn't been but I suspect something else is causing the problem.

I would have suggested that Patrick... the only problem is that neither the camera or the card can be read by his Mac or a PC. Read his first post and follow ups.

I'd still say it's worth a try.

Just because some other attempts didn't work doesn't say the Image Capture.app won't. Doubtful I will admit but worth a try I'd say. :\

Personally, I'd really question the cable and/or the "adapter" whatever and whyever it's really needed, and just using a card reader as suggested sure makes sense.

Glad to hear it worked. Have to give Patrick credit for thinking of it. Be sure to give him some thumbs up reputation!

Thanks chscag, and I have no idea why and how the Image Capture.app can often overcome some problems that other apps and methods can't, but it has always been one of the problem saving apps I suggest.

And nice to read it worked once again where other methods and apps failed. :)

Agreed. Think I'll add a thumbs up from me. I thought of Image Capture but kinda figured that if the system didn't see it then this wasn't going to work. Obviously I was wrong.

Thanks guys, and maybe some others can benefit if they end up with the same problem.

It's not a guaranteed solution but it never hurts to try using it and I've often found it just work when other methods fail.

EDIT:
Actually the Image Capture.app has a lot of other uses that are often overlooked.
Have a look at these for example for those who didn't know:
mac uses for "Image Capture"
