apple thunderbolt to HDMI adapter, will this allow my mac to use my TV and other HDMI screens? on a side note does anyone know how to find out if the thunderbolt port (or the displayport embedded inside) has died? my 2012 MBP wont display on my HDMI screen anymore, i have a mini displayport to HDMI cable and it worked fine for a year or two.
any thoughts?

Depending on the input to your TV and other HDMI devices (some cable boxes have an HDMI input) and if the cable - adapter is a quality one, it should work. As for your 2012 MBP not displaying to HDMI after working for a year or so.... the first thing is to try another display port to HDMI adapter and cable.

Have to agree with Charlie as usual. The quality of the adapter is key. I recently experienced a lot of problems with video on my 2015 iMac recently. The first connector was older so I purchased a new one. Within a few months that one failed as well. I tried different cables (HD, VGA, and DVI) as well as three different monitors. Finally I tried a third connector which is working well.

Beware some of the cheaper connectors that are out there. Some are very good others are junk.

Thanks for getting back to us. Sometimes Amazon sells quality stuff at a good discounted price. I've only been disappointed one time buying a device from Amazon. (USB 3 Hub that didn't work.)
