The Mail app is not adding the attachments and files that were included in the original email when I forward them. I have clicked the options under Edit > Attachments, but no change. Any ideas or suggestions are greatly appreciated, thank you!

Hello and welcome to the forum! :) First some questions: 1) What macOS are you using; 2) Assume you are referring to the native Mac Mail app; and 3) Is this a new occurrence after an update or upgrade? For starters, go to Apple's Support Article and select the proper macOS, and see if the suggestions there are helpful. Please post back. Dave

Hi Dave! I am using an Apple M1 Pro running macOS Ventura. I am referring to the native Mac Mail app. This is a new issue that started a few days ago. I have my Mac set to update automatically, so it was likely after an update. I will check the article for any pertinent information/solutions. Thank you!

I may have found the issue. When I go to Edit > Include Attachments With Replies, then look at the options, "When Adding Recipients" seems to be selected rather than "always". It seems to want to go to the recipients selection by default. Very weird. Thank you for your help.

On my M1 MBP, with Ventura, the setting is in Mail, Edit, Include Attachment with Replies, not where you pointed:

It's the same place that I went to. My most recent reply was still awaiting moderator approval. Issue has been resolved, thank you.

In fact, Jake et al, that has been there since at least macOS High Sierra which my "old" Mac runs and which I keep for personal & work reasons.

The phraseology is slightly different but the options are the same.

I am on a MacBook Pro running the latest release of Ventura (13.2) and I have found the option. But now Mail on Mac sends back attachments when I reply to emails (absolutely unnecessary) and when I forward emails (which I want). Is there any way of making the distinction other than just choosing the option "Ask" for Include Attachments with Replies, as it requires that extra click?

Dwarf Hobbit, I don't think there is. That would, as you rightly state, require Mail to be able to distinguish between "Reply" and "Forward" which I don't think it can do at this time.

Thank you, Rod!
Mail did it automatically until quite recently. I was wondering if I can make a rule, but the necessary building blocks for one that could do it are missing :(
Do you have any idea how this can perhaps be automated?

I just upgraded to Ventura 13.2.1 (22D68) and this just started for me as well. I have ALWAYS replied automatically without attachments and forwarded with attachments until today. I would like that back.

Me too! I was getting very frustrated by this. But in fact, it does work like that. Select ‘When Adding Recipients’ (which you invariably do when forwarding). Forward your email - no attachments are included. Add a name in the ‘To’ section - the attachments are automatically added.

I believe macOS Mail sees "Forward" as different than "Reply", as you will be adding new recipients to the conversation.
