Even though I have dumped MS Office I have kept OneDrive for a variety of reasons. Today there was an update to OneDrive and it was carried out on my My Intel iMac running Catalina and my iMac running Ventura.

The upshot is that the update won't work on Catalina. It no longer operates and I have tried reinstalling from both the MS web site and the App store with no joy. The only probable fix is reinstalling an earlier issue but I can only find a couple of earlier versions and neither work.

The problem is discussed on Microsoft Community and it appears that Microsoft updates will no longer support use with older versions of Macs.

If any of you have this app on an older Mac, don't update it or consider an alternative app.

Update:-

I have restored an earlier version from Time Machine. It worked for a while then crashed.

I have tried earlier versions from the internet going back a year or more but they eventually crash.

I have tried removing everything from the Mac that even smells of Microsoft but installations still fail - it's almost as if the latest update from Microsoft left something lurking in my machine or in my Microsoft Account!

I have tried booting from my CCC disk but, for some reason, that did not work and it kept booting from its own HDD. Searches of CCC suggest that there issues with some earlier versions and set ups.

I have all but given up and will look for another app for synching my iMacs and iPhones. Pity, I liked OneDrive so adios Microsoft!

Peter,

My guess is that no matter what version you have, every time you open or access OneDrive, it sends a message back to the "mothership" - recognises the criteria associated with that version and the mothership returns a message - OK or Out of Date or no longer valid and it shuts down.

Lot of third party apps do that but especially, Microsoft, Adobe and others.

Hi Ian

Thanks for that.

I guess you're right. I've just restored from CCC and it is doing exactly the same.

That's it Microsoft has gone!
