Hello there,

I like to know how I can add a .kext file to Monterey System Library Extensions folder. In the past Mac operating systems I found resources in the internet to do that but so far for Monterey I haven’t found any concrete step by step resource.

I have a sound interface called Digi 003 that also acts as a control surface which I use for audio postproduction. It is designed by Avid particularly with all the features and tools in Avid Pro Tools software and I have always been using the control surface and numerous audio inputs so this hardware is very valuable to me for my work. The installation software is stopped right off the bat by the operating system but constructing the package to pieces and copying pieces one by one to relevant folders seem to work based on what is demonstrated in YouTube. The only part that I haven’t figured out yet is how to copy the .kext file to the system extensions folder.

I really appreciate if someone can explain it step by step. I found a software that apparently can help with this but in fact no change happens to the extensions folder. It seems that I am supposed to install open core or Clover and I’m not an expert but I can follow instructions to do so if that’s the only way.

I have already tried enabling the root user and disabling the system protection but still system extensions folder is not a changeable directory when it comes to manual copy and paste.

Thanks a lot,

You can't modify the System Library in any way, shape, or form on Monterey. It's been sealed off and only components signed by Apple are allowed in.

You should be trying to put the kext file in /Library/Extensions, not in the System folder. That may work for you. If not, I found an open source tool that claims to be able to forcibly install kexts into the System folder for you. Try it if you like, but be aware this COULD render your system unusable. Make a backup beforehand.
