2009 Mac Pro, 10.11.6, Logitech M705 mouse with latest LCC from Logitech installed.
Even in safe mode I get random double clicks when single clicking.
Would switching to a magic mouse fix this?
Would another type mouse?
Should I downgrade to Mavericks?

If I had a dollar for every mouse that did this, especially Logitechs. You probably need a new mouse. Unless you have a source of micro switches and can solder real well.

Don't do anything other than try another mouse. As cradom suggests it is probably the mouse itself. I think it EXTREMELY unlikely that is is your Mavericks Operating System. Having said that i would not suggest a Magic Mouse, they are overly expensive and have their own problems. Try a Microsoft mouse, I'm using a Microsoft Sculpt bluetooth mouse and have been for two years now, but they all break eventually.

And in case anyone's wondering, I'm on my second Razer mouse. The first one lasted about 8 years. They're a tad expensive but well worth it.

I'm on El Capitan but was thinking of reverting to Mavericks.
I have a wired mouse I can try.
So it sounds like it's the mouse itself. OK.

As far as a Magic Mouse I know there are a lot of bluetooth problems with the 2009 Mac Pro.

I have several of those Logitech M705 mice that I've used for ages, and unfortunately as has been suggested, their micro switches can and do go goofy.

I didn't bother with any repairs as the local Staples had the Logitech M705 on sale a year or so ago for $30.00±cdn so I just bought two as replacements.

Sometimes removing the batteries and clicking all the various buttons for about 20+ seconds and then replacing the batteries can help.

IMHO, Apple does not make a proper mouse that works for me.

Thanks.
I think I understand now. The left mouse button is wearing out causing the double clicks.
I did what you said. Now I will see.
I also discovered leftovers from an antivirus program. I deleted them. I don't no if I'll notice any difererences of any kind but...

OK, well, wireless mice still work fine with the disadvantage of the lost USB port. As for reverting to Mavericks it is only available if you "purchased" it before. In which case it will be in Previous Purchases.

My Mac Pro came with Mavericks so I promptly burned a couple of dvds in case I decide I don't like El Capitan.

If you created a .dmg of the HD that will work but a standard DVD will not boot your device. In earlier OSX versions you could copy the InstallESD.dmg but I don't believe that was possible with Mavericks. You can check this by inserting the DVD and going to System Preferences > Startup Disk. If your DVD is not listed it will not work. An installer must be capable of booting the device in order to install an Operating System.

I am able to boot from them. I do wonder if Mavericks is best for this older Mac Pro.

Stick with El Capitan or upgrade to Sierra. Going backwards is probably not going to solve anything but maybe make you feel better. ;) Mavericks is old now and soon there will no longer be any security updates for it. Besides that, you'll probably run into glitches by trying to downgrade. So many folks think by downgrading everything will get better but it rarely does and usually causes problems. But... it's your choice.

I can't upgrade to Sierra.

chscag, he is using a 2009 MacBook, he's upgraded as far as he can go. I agree that downgrading may cause problems though.
There is another alternative; make a full backup (you should anyway) preferably using Carbon Copy Cloner so you will have a bootable clone. Then perform a clean instal of El Capitan.
That is erase your HD and instal a mint copy of El Capitan.
You can then drag and drop anything you need from the clone to the new OS on your device. It gets rid of a lot of accumulated crap and is much better than defragmentation.

Hmmm… and I thought he was using a "2009 Mac Pro, 10.11.6, Logitech M705 mouse with latest LCC from Logitech installed."

But also with the same restriction:
Maximum MacOS: X 10.11.x*
http://www.everymac.com/systems/apple/mac_pro/index-macpro.html

PS: I'm still mainly using Mavericks OS X 10.9.5 with my 2011 iMac and have experienced the double clicking problem with my Logitech M705 mouse. Or using other OS X versions, it doesn't change the problem.

One of the best computer mouses I've ever used. But also works best when configured and a really good quality mouse pad. Super smooth and no, I don't use or need all its buttons. And did anyone mention its alkaline AA batteries lasting about three years!!! :Smirk:

It works right far more often than not. I think I need to research a different mouse.

Just to be a bit of a contrarian about mouse options, I have a Magic Mouse and I wouldn't trade it for anything from Logitech. My wife uses Logitech and has been through three of them while my Magic Mouse just keeps trucking. I refer to them as "Logicrap," which irritates her but she does concede that my mouse has proven to be much more reliable than anything she picks. I use rechargeable batteries, with two sets so one set is charging while the other is in use. (In case you ask, she prefers her mouse because it's smaller than the MM, which fits her hand better. Frankly, that's a great reason for picking a mouse--that it fits YOU--so I don't ask her to change, I just buy another when she says she needs one.)

Good to know. I would like to try a Magic Mouse.
