My Mouse Won't Scroll Correctly

I had been using my Razer Deathadder for a while, and I found that the scroll wheel would not work if I slowly scrolled my mouse wheel or scrolled my mouse wheel only once. It only works if I scroll rapidly. I thought it was a problem with my mouse, and stopped using my scroll wheel. Recently, my parents bought me a Logitech G403, and I still encounter the same issue with the scroll wheel. I have tried my mouse on different computers, and it works normally with no errors. Any ideas to fix this issue? I have tried the scroll speed setting in System Preferences already with no avail. I have used numerous mouses and still run into the issue.

Welcome to the forum. Harry's suggestion is very good, as you are more likely to find a Mac user in the Razer forums than a Razer user here.

But given that you repeated the problem with a Logitech, that does sort of point to something in your setup. What Mac, what version of the OS are you using? Did you install any drivers for the two devices, or are you using the Apple drivers? I don't know the Razer or the Logitech, but I presume they are wired mouses? What settings have you tried in System Preferences/Mouse? Have you changed "tracking speed?" We need more information to try to help you.

The Deathadder was a wired mouse, and the Logitech is a wired/wireless mouse. I can use it wired or use a usb. I have tried both options but my problem was not fixed. The only drivers I have installed were Logitech Gaming Software, and Razer Synapse. I had Razer Synapse for a while before the problem occured. I have tried to change Tracking Speed, Double Click Speed, and Scrolling Speed. I have found that Tracking Speed increases sensitivity, and that the Scrolling Speed increases scroll speed on browsers. I am using macOS Sierra (10.12.1) and used to be using 10.8 until I recently updated. It might be a problem with my computer, since it was the 2009 model and that I bought it around 2.5 years ago refurbished. Here are results from the System Report.

Have you tried the Razer with Synapse removed? Or the Logitech without the Gaming Software? Maybe they are not updated for Sierra. You jumped from 10.8 to 10.12, four versions. That is a pretty big jump. So I would either check with Razer and Logitech to see if there are updated versions of those two, or remove them entirely and use the Apple mouse drivers. I don't game, so I can't tell you the impacts that may have.

I had the same problem. When my old Razor died I bought a Deathadder. Wouldn't scroll properly. So I swapped it with my Logitech 500S. Same thing.
Now I'm using the Hp mouse that came with my Hp, which doesn't work right either, but doesn't matter because the imac is mainly a backup computer anyway now.
I mainly use it for my diabetes software now and to check things for answers to the forums.
I think Apple really wants you to use their mice and optimized the drivers for a touch scroll. Just my opinion.

Scrolling behaviour in OS X is a lot different to how it works on Windows. On Macs, the scroll speed is greatly determined by how fast you are physically scrolling the wheel. It works very similarly to the way OS X handles cursor speed: if you move the scroll wheel slowly, the operating system decelerates the speed curve; when you scroll faster, it accelerates the speed curve. Speed and acceleration work together so you don't need to move your mouse 1:1 with how wide your screen is, and likewise for scrolling large documents and web pages. Windows has similar behaviour for mouse and scrolling speed but is a lot more linear.

If you are running macOS Sierra, make sure you upgrade to 10.12.2 if you haven't already, as it fixed a scrolling bug with third party mice - scrolling a notch at a time (i.e. slowly) was being completely ignored by the operating system, which has since been fixed so the behaviour is now the same as it is under previous versions of OS X.

Could be. But it doesn't matter to me because I haven't used an Apple mouse that I like. I usually buy an inexpensive wired USB mouse and use that instead. Never had a problem with scrolling with any of the el cheapo mice I buy. I also hate trackpads... :p

The recycling bin :p

I tried the Apple drivers. The Razor drivers. The Logitec drivers.
Tried Steermouse. Currently using USBOverdrive. Works better than most, but still not right.

I don't know if I believe that, because there are plenty of us that can't use them for health or ergonomic reasons. I don't think it would be appropriate for Apple to purposefully degrade the user experience using a non-Apple mouse if you happen to have a disability and need to use an ergonomic or specialised mouse, for example. They certainly care a lot about their profit margins, but I don't think they would go so low as to be distasteful.
