I looked for an MP4 to Mp3 Juice converter on various software download sites and downloaded a few of them. But when I install them, each and every one of them has something that comes with it - and mandatory. The ones that I downloaded did not have an option to uncheck the box and install the converter only.

If anyone knows about one that comes without compulsory toolbars or associated software, please post about it here and where to get it. Free is preferred, although a good cheap one is also ok.

MP4 is a video container, and MP3 is audio. So you don't need a converter, you need an audio extractor.

Have you tried Smart Converter available on the App Store? I use it primarily to convert video files from MKV to DivX but it does handle MP4 and has an MP3 option.

Apologies. I forgot that QT produces a m4a file.

I've had ClipGrab installed for several years now. IIRC it doesn't add anything extra.

You mentioned that some software you have tried wants to add extras. That leads to a potentially important question: Are you downloading the software directly from the developer's website or from one of the software compilation sites? Many software aggregator sites add additional software with or without the developer's permission.

I use ClipGrab a fair amount and it works very well, but how does one use it to convert an mp4 file to mp3?
As far as I know, ClipGrab needs to start with a web link to a video file, one can then download that file as either a video in various formats or also as an audio only file in mp3, but one can't start with an mp4 file one already has on theMac and convert that to mp3 (which I think is the question)

How right you are. It doesn't have that option. I'm going to go find my dunce cap now.

I am still wondering though if the extra software the OP mentioned is the result of downloading from an aggregator site.

@krs, thanks for the tip on Switch, it's perfect for some of my needs, if not the OP's.

VLC can do this. I just tried it and it was very simple and obvious, so you don't really have to wrestle with all its other features if you choose not to.
