I have a late 2015` imac 27 running el capitan. I want to bump my fans a little lower than the base 1200 rpm. Usually you can edit the .plist for smc to do this. Unfortunately I cant find ANY .plist file for smc. Any ideas? Please dont give my your opinion on slowwing down my fans. Im aware my computer will melt, blow up, and burn my house down. I am just looking for some info where the **** .plist file is. Thanks

I haven't used SMC Fan Control so I can't check this for sure. Have you looked inside the Library folder for your specific user? That folder is hidden by default under in El Capitan. To show the Library folder try the following while in the Finder:

1. Hold down the Option key when the little window appears
2. From the Finger Go menu choose Go to Folder and choose OK when the window appears

With the Library folder showing open it if necessary and go to the Preferences folder. The .plist you need may be there.

If it's not in the User Library, check in the /Library preferences.
/Library/Preferences

Edit: wait ^^ finger GO menu? One of those days Sly?

This isn't my opinion, it is a fact. There is no logical reason to use smc on a 2015 iMac. There are no 'fans', only a single very quiet and efficient fan within your iMac, so no need to slow it down. If this caused damage and smc was found to be the cause, your warranty would be voided, a fact, not an opinion.

Since you're determined to destroy your new 27" iMac, you may as well do it the right way and download "iMac Fan Control" instead of SMCFanControl which is outdated anyway. Be sure to let us know what Apple tells you when you bring them your iMac for repair due to overheating.

I'm flatly not going to help someone who is under the (descriptor deleted) impression that Apple didn't design their latest iMacs properly and thinks he knows better than the world's finest engineers, thus damaging and possibly ruining a new machine. That's (descriptor deleted).

I think you got the general idea suzook. The fans are designed to work at a specific speed so leave well enough alone eh?
