OS X Sierra: 10.12.4 on a (late 2013) 21.5" iMac. I am using Kanto Yu2 powered speakers (No Bluetooth). They have 3.5 and/or USB input. There is a builtin DAC which only works when you opt for the USB connection. I am not getting any sound in the speakers when I use the USB connection(3.5 connection works great). The speakers are plug n play (no drivers/installation software). Please help to resolve this issue!
Thank You

@jn55 Have you checked the settings in the Audio preference pane? Some USB based speakers and other audio devices do not function until they are selected in that pane. Try the following:

1. Connect the speakers via USB and make sure they are powered up if necessary. For test purposes sort some audio playing.
2. Go to System Preferences>Audio and select the Output tab. If you see an audio device that hasn't been there before select it. If necessary adjust the volume slider.

You can also make this change from the menu bar if you have the audio slider in the menu bar.

Your advise is much appreciated. The Output tab does not show any new Audio Device. I also got in touch with Apple Support, they asked me to create a test login and see if there is sound in test mode. I have not done that but will certainly post the result once it gets done.

So the MIDI Utility was no help?

For anyone finding this thread searching for the solution, for me the USB cable that came with the speakers was bad. Swapped cables and the audio device came right up.
