I'm a Mac Mini with Big Sur 11.2.1 and did a quick test by sending mail in the Mail app and I got the swoosh sound when the email got sent.

Is this checkbox checked?

Yes I have that box checked. I tried unchecking also. Restarting Mail. Restarting the computer. Looked at everything in Sys Prefs such as Sounds and Notifications.

May I just confirm that all other sounds are working correctly, please?

eg: copy/paste action; move to Bin; empty Bin etc

All other sounds are working. I checked and unchecked the "Play sounds for other Mail actions" a couple of times, restarted the computer and now the "swoosh" sound is working when I send an email. Thanks everyone.

The "whoosh" sound, which I associate with a sent e-mail, ceased on my brand new iMac after my husband shut down the computer without first closing the Mail application. I've checked System Preferences and Mail Preferences. I've restarted the computer, many times, after choosing various combinations in the above preference menus. I've tried a safe restart. I've allowed an Apple-recommended software update. I've had four chats with Apple technicians, all to no avail. "Whoosh" seems to gone the way of the dodo. Any advice?

Welcome to our forums!

One solution that has worked for some folks is go to System Preferences, Notifications. From there choose Mail by highlighting it on the left side column. Then select from the type of Notification: Alerts.

If that doesn't work, try a NVRAM and SMC reset.

You didn't mention which iMac you have? The new M1 iMacs do not accept a SMC reset so if you have one of those, just do the NVRAM reset.

Thank you for your kind welcome and your advice, chscag.
I have a 24-inch, 2021 M1 Mac. I've tried visiting system preferences, notifications, mail, but there is no "sounds" option in mail anymore (there was, before the software upgrade.)
Should I still try to reset NVRAM?

It seems as if the problem has been with many Mac users for quite a while now. Have a look among the hits in the Google search list for a possible solution with a matching OS version and similar conditions if Charlie's suggestion doesn't work:

Also have a look here in a more specific search:

Are the sounds available in your System Preferences and do they work??? Is your speaker Muted??? 😏

It sounds from your description that your mail has just lost the option to show sounds or change any sound settings. Strange.

When did the problem start, and it should not have been caused by anything your husband did as you suggest.

Don't forget that you can probably install your own custom E-mail "being sent" just as you can customize the incoming mail sound. I use the old Outlook Express "you got mail" sound. Others are available if you go searching, or create your own.

I'm not sure if later, recent Mac OS versions still allow you to customize such things or not.
