Hello,

I was wondering if its possible to use a the upcoming NVidia RTX 3070 in a Mac Pro 5,1 (early 2009 flashed). I noticed the card has similar power requirements to the 2080 ti, 1080 ti, Titan X cards which already have been successfully running for other Mac pros 5,1 users. I understand I wouldn't be able to boot into OSX with this card, but that is not a problem for me as I primarily use Windows boot camp.

I have the dual Xeon 5690 CPUs and 128 GB of ram.

Thanks

Might be better to wait on purchasing one these cards for your machine. I have the same Mac and with a 3070 FE installed, there is no video output. I have troubleshot everything I can think of and have come to the conclusion there is some sort of driver or software compatibility issue that needs to be fixed on either Window's or Nvidia's end.

Hi drift1ng, I presume you have installed Windows 10 in UEFI mode?

Yes I do. Could that be causing an issue?
No, from what I understand UEFI is necessary to make RTX Cards work on the Mac 5.1. I personally don't own a 3000 series card, but I've been trying to research and see it it is possible. I have a 5.1 Mac Pro, looking to upgrade my gtx 970. I've seen this useful post on macrumors.com which details how to get a RTX 2000 series card working. I was hoping this would translate over to the 3000 series. But maybe you have already seen this post? https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/can-windows-bootcamp-use-a-nvidia-rtx.2190466/post-27787335
Let us know how you get on.

Drift1ng did you manage to get the 3070 working on your Mac Pro yet? I have an option to buy an 2080 ti or a 3070 right now. If you didn't manage to get your 3070 working, then I won't buy it.

I never got it to work so I cut my losses and built a windows machine. Fantastic card in the windows environment.

Hi, did your Mac Pro 5,1 boot with the RTX 3070?

I am stuck with a chime loop and a black screen if I try to boot my Mac Pro 5,1 with the RTX 3070.

Thank you.
