Can anyone confirm this?

Never having tried PAGES as a word processor, I thought I would give it a go on my Macbook Pro, which has El Capitan.

It seems, though, that it's no longer possible as a download for anything pre-Sierra. Or so it seems to me. Anyone else experienced this? I simply can't believe Apple would do this. I mean, El Capitan... we're not talking an ancient version of the OS here! It's just 2 years old.

Hi Stuart

This Apple Discussion Forum might answer your question. https://discussions.apple.com/thread/7977559

I take it that you've never owned Pages in the past? Because if you had, it may be possible to download a version under the Purchased Section of the Apple Store. Otherwise, you appear to be out of luck.

Pages is still available in the App Store. You do need a registered Apple ID to download from the App Store. Fo you have an Apple ID first question? Second question what model MBP?

Older versions of Pages were included with the iWork Suite. The iWork Suite was not free, however, ever since Sierra Apple has allowed Pages, Numbers, and Keynote to be downloaded for free. The catch is that you must be using Sierra or later.

Older versions of Pages are not available from the App store. You can find a copy of iWork 09 (includes Pages which will work with El Capitan) on eBay.

Thanks for the replies.

Looks like I've missed out, then. Quite ridiculous if you ask me. And I'm not about to upgrade an 8-year-old Macbook Pro to High Sierra (even Sierra is no longer available).

All in all, not impressed by Apple here. Why do they keep changing things at seemingly breakneck speed? And I see it ain't long until it's Mojave time...

The world is moving at breakneck speed. Apple just keeps up. For the future, every time Apple announces a new version, at least download the installer even if you don't install it. That way the installer will show up in your "purchased" tab and can be re-downloaded when you need/want it. Consider it a lesson learned.

You might try calling Apple to see if the tech can make the older Pages available to you. It's worth a try and the worst he/she can say is "no."

I was going to mention that to the OP last night but am not sure of the legality of using the trial version to upgrade. Besides, the lastest version of Pages will likely refuse to install unless he's running Sierra or later.

I believe the OP has El Capitan, and "I think" they will be able to upgrade to a newer version, maybe ?
