I have, for many years, used an application called Paperport for windows to scan and manage all my documentation on the PC. Is there a similar application for the Mac?:|

Image Capture -- probably came on your mac. Then there is VueScan (not free), and probably lots of others. I scan via Photoshop Elements with good results (also not free). Check on Verstiontracker for scanning software.

Good luck!

If you have been using Paperport for it's organizational features (I used to use Paperport previously on Windows for this purpose), I'd recommend you take a look at Yep by Ironic Software. It allows you to scan all your documents to PDF format and makes it really easy to track your documents.

I know this response is late.. but Presto! PageManager Professional 8 for the Mac is superb. It works with any twain driver enabled scanner, but will accept any file from any source so you can use a third party scanner driver as well.

It's the closest interface to Paperport that I've been able to find.

Just bought an iMac; bought VueScan for my Laptop a year ago or so. It didn't support my one & only "Mac Scanner" Canon 8800F.
Just discovered {YEP} by ironicsoftware.com with its own scanner window; you scan, crop, tag (categorize) & make notes at the same time; can save filename in different formats, jpeg, pdf and do multiple pages without leaving the scan, unlike PhotoElements. What it WON'T do is APPEND like Acrobat. Allows incremental rotation for slight askew like PhotoElements. VueScan works now.

Need more than PDF scans

I've looked at these applications, but they all support scanning only to PDF. While 90% of what I scan is to PDF, I must submit my Expense Report receipts in TIFF format. Anyone know a good PaperPort replacement that allows scanning into multiple formats other than just PDF?

THanks in advance.

Why not just use Preview to convert the PDF files to TIFF that you need to attach to your Expense Report?

Because when I scan to a 150 pixel/inch TIFF in PaperPort the file size is around 150kb. When I use Preview to convert a 150 pixel/inch PDF to even a 75 pixel TIFF, it's 10 Meg. Too big to attach to an email. I've played with it ten ways till Sunday and still can't figure out how to reduce the file size of the TIFF.

That would be a very good reason not to do it that way! Wonder why the huge difference in file size.

Because preview's TIFF is kind of stupid and includes the white bits.

Instead, use another program such as GraphicConverter to go from PDF to TIFF.
