Hi, I use Peloton quite often, and I realized that when I use it before to go to sleep (sleep meditation), it keeps the phone unlocked and with the screen ON for the whole night.
It's not so healthy for the phone, but I also don't want the light on for the whole night.

Basically, thanks to the sleep meditation I fall asleep in deep dreams, and I don't want to use an alarm to wake me up just to lock the phone after 10 minutes.
How can I workaround this problem?
Looking at the app settings from Peloton and Apple point of view, there isn't a way to lock one app only after a certain time.

My iCloud backup doesn't happen every night, I kept the phone turned on, is it normal?
I remember that the backup would have been done every night automatically.

Probably, it was blocked by this app with video play involved: Peloton app keeps the screen unlocked until you exit

What is the proper way to debug/log analyze such things in iOS?

Which iPhone do you have and what version of iOS is it using?

Edit: I combined both your posts together as they are the same subject. No need for separate posts.

Thanks.

iPhone 12 with iOS 15.
Are you aware of any similar bug? I couldn't find anything online after a quick search, I may dig but...

Even though they could be related, I don't think we should discuss the same here, but as long as someone replies, I may be ok with it :D
Have a nice weekend

My simple understanding is that if anything (eg Peloton) is constantly running on your iPhone, then the iPhone cannot "go to sleep".

iCloud backup depends on "as long as the iPhone is connected to power, locked and on WiFi, then an iCloud backup can go ahead".

I think that explains your situation??

iOS provides the ability for an app to prevent the phone from going to sleep or turning the screen off. Ever wonder how while playing a video on YouTube, you don't have to constantly touch the screen to keep it awake? That's why.

Similarly, iOS provides the ability for an app to allow the screen to go off but the phone to stay awake. All routing and music apps do this.

Now that we have an understand of the functionality in iOS. The Peloton app needs to be awake to provide the necessary audio/video cues for your workout. It looks like the app doesn't differentiate between what type of workout is being done and as such it keeps the screen and phone on for as long as it's being used.

Check all settings in the app.

The other thing to try is to start the meditation program and then press the power button to see if it will turn the screen of while leaving the rest on. If not, then you might want to find a different meditation only app that allows you set a timer for when it should stop and allow the phone to go to sleep.

I use Audible to read to me before I go to sleep and it has a timer setting that shuts off the app. But when I set it and put the phone down I manually shut off the screen (it would do it anyway as the screen shuts off after 3 minutes.) The difference is the timer shuts down the app or it would keep running until the book was done.

Maybe you could suggest to Peloton they add the sleep timer feature. It seems like a great idea for what you are using it for.

Thank you, also Audible is a nice have, but I think that shutting the screen manually will work just fine, I'll test it.
