I am trying to print a 2" x 2" passport picture using Photos. Is this possible to do? I am using High Sierra with Photos version 3.0. Any help is greatly appreciated!

I don't know where you live or where or how the photos will be used, but here in Canada the passport photos must be taken by qualified places that also must verify your ID for them to be used for passport use.

Not true if you are in the U.S. As long as the photo meets the passport requirements that are shown and described on their website they will take it. All the verifying is done by the person, usually a post office official, who goes over your application. You do need an official birth certificate and an official picture ID like a drivers license when you go to apply.

Here in the US passport photos can be taken anywhere as long as they meet the requirements. The person's identity (citizenship) is verified by one's birth certificate or a certificate of naturalization plus photo ID. Been there done that several times. :)

@Shelbyw7 I'm all in favor of doing projects like this on a Mac but sometimes it can be a pain to get a good photo printed. Check with some of the national pharmacy chains / big box stores. Some of them can take a good recent picture of yours and produce a copy that meets the requirements for less than you might think.

In short, don't let this part of getting ready for your trip ruin the trip itself.

+1.

Like even our own local Canadian COSTCO Store:
Costco Canadian Passport/Residency Photos $6.99 and all certified and authorized - for two photos.

Takes less than 10 minutes, if that.

PS: Also fully waterproof as well.

PPS: Google says for US stores:
Your local Costco Photo Center can deliver a pair of Passport photos while you shop for only $4.99.*

FWIW, here in the UK, can do the whole process online. Form filling, Photo via Photo Booth - you submit the picture and it either accepts or rejects it, telling you if it is not good enough.

Persevere and once the picture is accepted, and the form filled in, you just send back your old passport and they then send you the new one. You pay online too.

As far as I know, this only applies to renewals.

Useful info. Mine isn't due for renewal until 2021 so I hope I remember!

Put it in Calendar when you need to apply (you might lead the actual date by a few days). Or you can set a reminder. I have several licensing deadlines tracking that way. I the either see it on the calendar as it gets closer to time, or get the reminder.

OT… but…
Speaking of which, one may want to consider using one of the Calendar menu utilities that are MUCH easier to use than Apple's clunky Calendar access method.

I used to use an old version of Fantastical.app which really was fantastic until it started doing goofy things and I switched to an early free version of Calendar 366.app.

There are lots of others to choose from, to get an idea check out:

Patrick, I'm not sure what you are talking about when you said:
Apple's clunky Calendar access method.
All I needed to do was click on the date (actually any date will do) and enter the data. I tried Fantastical, but thought it was absolutely dreadful and got rid of it. Maybe it's the old version you are running? And the only Calendar 366 I could find was a top bar application.

And I don't recommend macupdate for any software. They have been known to "bundle" crapware with their downloads. If a person wants software, get it from the developer directly or from the Mac App Store.

Here is Calendar 366 developer site: https://nspektor.com/calendar366/mac

And Fantastical is in the MAS.

Well and good maybe Jake, IF the date is already there to use.

They've smartened up their act quite a bit Jake but one must be aware of what they're clicking on and downloading, like nearly all sites now, but they do provide a decent app search function and I basically gave up on a lot of Apple's App Store downloads as so many apps or utilities I tried were stripped of some feature(s), but I do agree that the developers site is the best, IF it exists to allow any download.

BTW: The Calendar 366 developer site only seems to have the later Calendar 366 II version, Requires macOS 10.12.2 Sierra or 10.13 High Sierra.

I use the older Calendar 366 version.

What does that mean? To make a reminder, I open the Reminders app, enter the thing I want to be reminded about and enter the day I want it to remind me. I just did that and it took about 15 seconds to scroll from today to July 1, 2027, which is where I put the reminder. On Calendar, the same thing, I clicked on TODAY's box, then added the event and moved the calendar date to July 1, 2027 by simply clicking and holding the ">" arrow for a few seconds. And with Siri, it's even easier. "Remind me on July 1, 2027 at 8AM Renew Passport" and it was done. It doesn't get much easier, IMHO. Can your older version not get to future dates? Maybe you should upgrade. :)

Opps, I thought it was an OS X thing but I guess not as I have the option to highlight the date and right-click to send it to my Calendar menu utility and just type any particulars I might want or need.

Reminders and appointments all go into my Calendar or Calendar menu and I don't think Ivve used my Reminders.app more that half a dozen times. In fact I usually even forget to even bother using it. Isn't that what the Calendar.app and it's affiliate utilities are for???

I think that's personal preference, Patrick. I use calendar for EVENTS, and Reminders for THINGS. So a meeting is on my calendar, the reminder to renew my passport on Reminders. If the passport renewal ends up in an interview or meeting, that will go to the calendar. (I removed the test I did from calendar once I knew it worked for a date 10 years downstream.) But either way works. And it's pretty easy to do. One easy trick is to just click on ANY date and enter the data, part of which is the actual date you want. Then Calendar moves it to the right place. No need to start on the right date. And no need for third party stuff.

Then I'm sure you have a system when one of those is at least a whole day affair but you also have something else to be done or reminded about on the same day.

As you say, it's a personal preference and I just happen to prefer seeing all my stuff on a single app's Calendar or page.

I have about 18-20 daily Reminders, not to mention appointments on the calendar.

The Calendar support All Day Events. They show up as a bar at the top of the day, leaves the rest of the day free to have other things scheduled. I use that function for when we are traveling. The All Day shows where we are, the various events scheduled are in the time slots. Works really well. I suppose one could use the All Day for reminders, too, if you wanted to. Lots of options.
