I am trying to install pro tools 9 in my mac with OS X version 10.12.3 and I get this message:
Pro Tools cannot be installed because the following error(s) were found on your system: An incompatible version of the OS was found. Pro Tools 9.0 requires Mac OS X version 10.6.2 or higher. What can I do?

The fact that you're getting the message..."Pro Tools 9.0 requires Mac OS X version 10.6.2 or higher."...means Pro Tools 9.0 is and OLD application. OS 10.6 is a 7+ year-old version of the Mac OS. And Pro Tools 9.0 VERY likely not compatible with OS 10.12.3 (which is 6 OS versions newer than 10.6).

To check compatibility head to:

Welcome to our forums.

As Nick stated, your copy of Pro Tools is too old to properly work with Sierra. You need to update Pro Tools. That means spending $$$.

But will an installer be able to tell the difference between 10.12 and 10.1 (ten point one)? I don't know if they thought of 10.10, when they were creating Pro Tools 9?

I used to swear by Pro Tools and DiskWarrior but OS X has become so good at self analysing, get by with only DriveDx.

I am going to "assume" you mean ProTools 9 for audio recording and composing? If so Sierra requires ProTools 12. It has to do with the changes that were made with how Sierra handles audio. We found this out the hard way at work when one of the sound engineers upgraded an iMac to Sierra and it would cause huge audio distortion issues. We use ProTools 10 currently. After calling support we discovered that ProTools 11 would get an upgrade to have it work with Sierra but not our version.
