Hi! I am using Mac OS 10.10.5
Using Activity Monitor I see that a process called 'bird' is using about 48% of my CPU. If I quit it, is just starts up again.
I looked it up and saw someone had said using terminal and writing this would help see what the problem was, so I did:
[edit: pigoo3 seems to have censored my post by deleting it for no reasonable reason I can see. So I am putting it back but censoring the command since he believes it to be dangerous!]
brctl log --***censored*** --***censored***

Then terminal went endlessly displaying text. Here is the beginning of that text:
Justins-MacBook-Pro:~ Justin$ brctl log --***censored*** --***censored***

I do not understand what any of that means. What can I do to stop this issue?
Many thanks!

If this is the case...then maybe we shouldn't post that string of commands...so others won't try it & possibly mess up their computers.

As far as the "bird" issue. If you can quit it...then you should be able to uninstall it.:)

For real?

If this is the case...then maybe we shouldn't post that string of commands...so others won't try it & possibly mess up their computers.

What makes you think it messes up the computer - are you familiar with that code?
Terminal was easy enough to close. I assumed it actually indicated that my computer was trying to do something every 1 or so hundredths of a second, and failing, so far as I can decipher from the output from the terminal, the beginning of which I quoted there for everyone to see.

As far as the "bird" issue. If you can quit it...then you should be able to uninstall it.:)

I see you are an administrator so I assume that you know that 'bird' is the thing that communicates (or whatever we say) with icloud. So you believe that the solution is genuinely to uninstall that?!

And hey pigoo3 was it you who edited my post? You have made it so that no-one can know what I am talking about or know the details of my problem. So that no-one can help me. Why?

If you feel that this "bird" thing is causing the issue...then it seems logical to uninstall it to eliminate the problem.:)

Here is the output from the code I put into the terminal which presumably pigoo3 censored (deleted). I will censor the command since pigoo3 seems to think it is dangerous though I am not sure if he actually understood it:

You did do the right thing checking out Activity Monitor to see what app was using a lot of CPU resources. What you didn't mention was if this was causing an issue of some sort. I can look at my computer's Activity Monitor...and I also have an app that's using 52% of my computer's CPU resources...and it's not an issue.

So the first the communicate with us is...is this 48% CPU thing causing an issue on your computer? And if it is...uninstall the app. This is a better solution than using Terminal.:)

So with your same logic, if someone had a problem with their operating system you would advise uninstalling their operating system?! Except... then they would have the new problem of not having an operating system. Similarly uninstalling 'bird' (if that is even possible) would mean no longer having a functioning icloud, would it not? A brand new problem, so, not sounding like a good solution. Though thanks for the suggestion.

The Mac-Forums Staff are here to protect members of the Mac-Forums community from anything that may potentially be harmful. This is why that Terminal command was removed.

As I already mentioned. Not really sure why you are using Terminal to solve this issue. Just uninstall the app or extension...and all should be fine. If the app/extension is removed...then there's no way for it to use 48% of CPU resources.:)

Not exactly very good logic....and not exactly a very good analogy. If someone has a serious enough issue with the OS...they always have the option of performing a fresh install of the OS...or running a maintenance app.:)

This "bird" thing...could be a 3rd party app, extension, plug-in, etc...and could somehow be in conflict with the OS...or maybe a preference file or permissions file associated with it has gotten corrupted. Thus causing issues.

Many feel that the "bird" issue is related to iCloud. What I would try if it were me. Do an:

- SMC Reset
- NVRAM Reset
- Run the free maintenance app called Onyx.

Keep using Terminal instructions you get from the 'net and this will keep happening. Some folk post things maliciously.

@Woodlandjustin

There is a great deal on the Internet about dealing with your problem which was commonplace, apparently, with Yosemite, which I think is your OS. It is said to be associated with Apple iCloud sync.

Terminal is not the best way to go, although there are sites that suggest that option. So you are not alone in trying it.

Here are a few suggestions. You may note a certain amount of "duplication", i.e. copy/paste of info from one site to another.

I posted what I posted to show the *output* from Terminal. I have no indication that using Terminal messed anything up at all. I posted it because I believed it *to be the solution* in fact, in so far as it showing what was giong on with Bird. I am merely not qualified to interpret the readout, which is why I posted it here, since I was hoping that some people here may be expert ebouh about Macs to know what that reasout was indicating, i.e. being able to read from that exactly what the problem is. Anyone here able to understand that output from Terminal?

yes it is causing an issue, my fans are going like crazy,
Nick you already suggested I uninstall the app and I pointed out to you that that would (I assume) totally destroy my use of the icloud. So I am again surprised to see you make that suggestion - like cutting on your foot to fix a broken toe, no?

Gotta keep up with the thread my friend. The thread has evolved beyond that suggestion. You're "connecting dots" that should not be connected. I'm trying to help as best as I can...but if you're going to be argumentative...I have better things to do...and more agreeable members to help.:)

And besides being argumentative & disagreeable...you haven't even indicated if you tried anything folks have suggested (post #11 and post #13).
