Hey i'm having issues with a epson tm-u220 printer saying printer time out and idle offline. On mac osx as well as ipad. I was asked if I can make the printer ip static but I can only find videos and info about that for the ethernet. Any suggestions?

I was asked if I can make the printer ip static but I can only find videos and info about that for the ethernet.
That is what "Static IP" means. The IP address on the Ethernet is fixed, not assigned by the DHCP server. You do that by manually configuring the IP address in the printer through whatever setup program the printer has, then logging into your router and configuring the DHCP server NOT to use that IP as part of the DHCP service, then you set up the printer in your Mac to use that IP address and in the iPad to do the same.

But none of that applies to printer time out and idle offline. Even an IP assigned by DHCP can be configured by using the printer network name as the name of the printer in the Mac and iPad and it will search for that name to print. Here is Apple's article on setting up a printer for WiFi: Connect an AirPrint printer to a Wi-Fi network and here is an article on setting up printers in general: Add a printer on Mac

Any ideas as to why its idle or offline then power cycled and works. Maybe removing reinstalling printer driver?

Well, the reason it works when power cycled is that it renegotiates the interface, so it shows up online. Is there a way to avoid it going to sleep? I suspect that is why it is dropping offline.
