I have just bought a mint imac G5 off ebay (1.8GHZ 2GB DDR) .....too good a price to miss, however, it will not allow me to install itunes. it states i need Quicktime 7.5.5 (currently has 7.2.1 installed) but i cant get it anywhere. i have trawled the internet and tried various options to no avail. the OS on the imac is 10.5.8....apparrently the most recent that can be installed (unless someone knows differently). Does anyone know of a link which can get me the desired download. Also, although the imac runs well - the video playback can be jerky....is this a Quicktime issue or is it a Javaissue.....i am not really computer savvy and appreciate any help i can get to get this beautiful beast running smoothly.

I think your expectations are too high for this 10 yr old Mac. Nothing's going to stop the video issues.
In case someone has a more helpful idea, what are the specs of the Mac (what it says in About this Mac under the Apple icon)?

Like i say - 1.8ghz 2 gb DDR ram. Power PC G5. I dont want it to turn cartwheels and stream HD - but surely it should run youtube videos without issue, and surely i should be able to get the 7.5.5 Quicktime somewher.

Not enough info. This could be an iMac G5 or a Powermac G5. And in each case there are multiple possibilities...with differing system specs.

- but surely it should run youtube videos without issue...

Not a good assumption. You Tube videos years ago did not always play smoothly on iMac G5's. And in 2016 things aren't going to get any better. Stuff on the internet gets more & more complex every year. This G5 Mac could be as old as 2003 (13 years old)...that's very very very old for a computer.

Since it sounds like this computer is "new to you"...I would recommend doing a fresh install of OS 10.5 (purchase install disk on eBay if you do not have one).

This fresh install of 10.5 will eliminate any "junk" from the previous owner (which could be slowing things down)...and the fresh install will come with all appropriate Apple apps (including Quicktime). Then after the install you check for any updates...and this should include the newest version of Quicktime compatible with OS 10.5.:)

Thanks Nick,
like I said - it was a cheap buy off ebay - only £38 (for what is a beautiful piece of kit), and i only want to surf the net and listen to my music on it really. Although it did come with Photoshop, Illustrator and In Design, which i possibly would play with......would these be lost if i reinstalled the OS? as these are now rental only and i don't want to do that.

Most definitely. These apps would have been installed by the previous user…and have serial numbers registered to the previous user.

The best thing to do when purchasing a used Apple computer…is erasing & reformatting the HD…then a fresh install of the OS.:)

With that old a Mac I don't think you will ever get there, and that was top money for an 11 year old computer.

If you propose to take it online be very careful. Older OS it will handle have no Apple support for a few years now and it will handle unsafe WEP protocol which businesses today will not recognise.

Have you been here and see if they don't have or provide access to what you want/need???

BTW: You might want to checkout the "Similar Software" alternatives while you're there, and maybe some of the comments that would give you a choice or option for what you're wanting to do. iTunes isn't the only game/app in town!!!
