I had several RAR files sent to me via Wetransfer and I have RAR Extractor and when I clicked the RAR Files, a window popped up saying "click to extract". Problem is the files can't be clicked. It's greyed out. I'm not sure why? I have an OS 10.11 El Capitan, and RAR is version 5.2.1.

Thank you very much

Welcome to Mac-Forums..

Screenshots of what you are seeing will help since there are many "RAR Extractors" out there..

Hello, Raz0r, thank you for the warm welcome.

Yeah, I just realised I should've been more specific. Sorry. I won't be able to screenshot what I mean exactly without showing some personal things. This is the RAR Extractor I have https://www.techspot.com/downloads/6369-rar-extractor-free-for-mac.html

These videos are meant to be opened in .mov and like I said, they were sent over in the rar format. When I click on the RAR file, a window opens for me to extract the files but I am unable to click the RAR Files since they are greyed out, no highlighted to be clicked in the first place.

Can you not right click and choose open with?

Or highlight all and drag em into the app (might not work, its been years since I did that but I think it works under Mac too)

you can always just get another extractor, some of them don't want to work.

One of the best ones out there: http://www.unrarx.com/
Just do a Get Info on one of the rar files and set the Open With to UnrarX. After that just double click on a rar file to open.

That app hasn't been updated since 2014. I would move on to something that's kept current. The easiest archive extracting app for macOS is The Unarchiver. It only extracts, so you can't create new archives or view their contents, but it works, and works phenomenally well. You can get it from the Mac App Store, but I recommend the direct download version from their website (link below). My only reservation is that MacPaw bought the software recently from the original developer. They've given a poor impression for some of us here due to their "CleanMyMac" software, but they don't seem to be sketchy to me like another developer that aggressively pushes poorly-written "cleaning" software. Regardless, The Unarchiver should be functioning unchanged from before.

(only command line is available)

to extract archive rar use
Code:
unrar x archive.rar

Do not, I repeat, DO NOT download that software from that source. It's a 3rd party website not affiliated with the developer. It could be malware for all anyone knows.

it doesn't matter. It's generally frowned on to direct-link to software hosted outside the developer's own website. Even then, people should be directed to the download page. It's just too easy to mask a URL to download a piece of malware disguised as legit software.
