Kelsie, your post is a bit vague. I get that you see "Reacted to an image" but when do you see it? What app are you using when you see it? Are you in the Apple Messages app and where do you see the emoji? We just need a bit more information. Take us though what you do and what happens.

Yes. You sent an image to an Android user and they used a built-in feature on their phone to show how they reacted to it. Since iPhones and Android phones aren't perfectly compatible, that feature didn't work properly when you received it on your iPhone.

Hello, thank you for the reply and yes it was a bit vague, apologies.
There is a goup of us on imessage (all mac people) and recently when I send out a message and get back replies the iphone does this....picture attached. So the person taps back a heart which you can see in the top right corner but then, as you can see, it also says "reacted to an image". Screenshot 2024-12-10 at 9.20.01 AM 2.jpeg

It seems like you are receiving what Android users used to receive when someone on an iPhone reacted to an SMS sent by them and perhaps vice versa. That has been fixed in later Andoid OS versions.

You mention you have an iPhone 8 so my guess is because the latest iOS you can run is iOS 16, newer iPhones on iOS 18 don't recognise your phone as an iPhone or at least the newest version of Messages doesn't.

So, yes, this is sort of new, at least to you. It may not happen with all of your friends yet if some are still on older iOS.
