Reducing size of a jpg image

I have managed to reduce the width of an image to 600 pixels but it also must not exceed 47kb on the website. Its original size was 225kb. I have Paint Shop Photo Pro X3 on an old Windows laptop.

Is there a simple way of doing this on my iMac without having to pay for an app?

To reduce the size of a JPEG on a Mac, you can use the Preview app to adjust its size and resolution. You can also crop the image.

Steps to reduce the size of a JPEG using Preview

1. Open the image in the Preview app
2. Select Tools in the menu bar
3. Select Adjust Size
4. • Select Resample image
   • Enter a smaller value in the Resolution field
   • The new size will be displayed at the bottom

Steps to crop a JPEG using Preview

1. • Open the image in the Preview app
   • Select the Selection tool in the Edit Toolbar
   • Drag a selection around the part of the image you want to keep
   • Select the Crop button in the toolbar

You can also batch resize multiple images at once using Preview.
