Although there is a tutorial on how to shortcut the green maximise button from the keyboard I can't find how to restore it to its normal size. I have somehow ended up in Finder in maximised mode but can't see how to restore it even if I short cut to Force Quit/Relaunch.

Although I have been a Mac User now for over 5 years I still haven't sorted this particular issue out!

Thanks for the tip. That does the trick. The full specs of my iMac are there under my Member details. Version 10.11.5 is the latest El Capitan.

@Alwyn

Possibly not so much for you, but for those reading this thread for whom the 3 buttons at the top of a window are confusing:

Clicking on the red button (left of the 3), closes the window, but does not usually quit the app. (NB difference between closing and quitting).

Clicking on the amber, middle button, minimises the windows into the Dock. Clicking the window in the Dock re-establishes it.

The green button, has a dual function:

1. just Clicking on it and you Enter Full Screen. To get out of Full Screen, move your pointer to the top of the screen, the menu bar will reappear, now click on the green button again - or View > Exit Full Screen

2. Hold down the Alt/Option key and then Click on the green button. This changes the window to a size that allows visualisation of all the data it contains. It is in this view that you can drag the window to whatever size you want it and move it around.

Even if this doesn't help @ elf69 and @ Alwyn, it may explain things to others attracted to the thread by its title.

You can also get out of full screen mode by tapping the escape key once you are in full screen mode. You don't even need to be at the top of the screen for it to work.

Good stuff for Sunday evening Sly! I'm usually busy on Sunday evenings but this is a 3 day weekend. I might even tune in and get a glimpse of your showmanship. :p

And of course, it depends on the OS X version the user happens to be using… and different things can happen…
