Hi @ all,

I've been going through Google for hours now but can't seem to find anything related to this game at all :\
Hopefully, someone has played this at some point and remembers the name of this game.

I used to play it in the mid 90s, I believe around 95, 96, on my Power Macintosh
The game was a action / first person shoot... something sorta futuristic science fiction.

I only remember small parts of the game. In the beginning of the story, you wake up in this capsule / bed in your apartment. It plays in this very futuristic world (I'm not sure if going back to sleep in that capsule allowed you to travel to different areas...wild guess, but I have a feeling there was something about the capsule that you had to go back and forth to).

After getting back, you left the apartment and took the elevator down... that's all for that part.
Later on in the story, I remember being in some sort of tunnel system shooting at this big round robots.

No clue what the title of the game was, but would love to check it out again! Hope someone can help out. Many thanks ;D

Cheers

Hi Nick!

Thanks for the reply. I thought it was Marathon too at first, but after watching some videos, I'd say no. Marathon looks too much like a shooter...a bit Doom-like.
This game had more story to it (than Doom).

It's getting frustrating after going through Mac games and not finding anything on this one. Thanks tho :)

...I'd say no. Marathon looks too much like a shooter...a bit Doom-like.

You did say in post #1 "action / first person shoot... something sorta futuristic science fiction."…which Marathon does fit that description.:) But if you say Marathon isn't it…no problamo.:)

I'm pretty sure I played most of these sort of games from back then. I probably even have the original instruction manuals & install disks in a box somewhere!:)

If you think of any additional details for the game to help us guess…please post. Stuff like game setting…graphics quality…anything.:)

If it's not a "first person shooter" (as mentioned in post #1)…but then NOT a "first person shooter" (as mentioned in post #3)…we need to clear this up first.;) If it's not a first person shooter…then is it a "top-down shooter"…or not a "shooter" at all??

Thanks for the replies and the list @ Gary. I check through all the titles, but, unfortunately, still nothing.

@Cradom - Thanks, but none of those titles.

Whops, think I got a bit confused with explaining the shooter.... it is definitly a first-person action/shooter game.

I remember I used to play Syndicate and Myst at the time as well...that must make the time period about 1993 - 1994.
Been searching and browsing the web daily now but nothing lol Remember that feeling when you need to find something but just can't get it...?

Some more details: So in the beginning of the game, you wake up in your bed / some kind of capsule...on the left is the window, blue sky and this futuristic city. I believe you have something over your head that flips up when you wake up (hence the feeling about the capsule)... it's sunny and this soothening computer voice talks to you when getting up. Can't remember anything after that or after leaving the apartment.

Then the part with the robots... I think there is some sort of track in the middle of the tunnel system. Everything is kinda bright and silver color and as you move through the passages, those robots come and shoot with some kind of laser or machine gun at you. As far as I remember, the speed was pretty slow tho - the shooting and movement was not as fast as in Doom.

Thanks for your input @ all. Greatly appreciate it

***Addition: I don't think I passed the part with the robots... it was quite difficult.

Ok, on second thought, it might NOT be a first person shooter, but a first person sci-fi action / adventure game ?!?!
My apologies about the shooter idea, I think I was wrong. When confronting the part with the robots, I think it was sorta a system of tunnels, and you had to escape or evade those robots. There were chances to hide behind some areas, but if I remember correctly, the robots would follow you or wait until you come out.

I just approved it. I have no idea why it was moderated in the first place?

Thanks for approving :)

I've been wondering if someone might know a game like I described but with a focus on solving tasks / riddles in the game? Something similar to Myst?

I remember the game speed being rather slow, so a 1st person shooter doesn't really seem right. My gut feeling tells me it's something like a 1st Person game, but the story requires you to solve challenges.

Regarding the robots: At that point I believe the robots can be turned off by some switches somewhere. Can't remember precisely, but it's coming back little by little lol

Hope this helps

I'm amazed you played a game from back then that I have never heard of. I thought I had played or at least watched being played all of the Mac first person action games from that era starting from Wolfenstein on. I have just had a look at this game here; https://www.gog.com/game/journeyman_project_1_pegasus_prime_the
This site is quite good for stand alone Mac games in general.

Yes I remember it. Seem to remember it had pretty good graphics for the time. But game style wasn't my cup of tea.

Congrats on figuring it out,

I see this was produced by the then fledgling Presto Studios which later produced Myst which you mentioned originally.
I have a very soft spot for FPS that have good story lines, complex plots and situational puzzles.
I see GOG has the updated version DRM free for $10, I think I'll give a try.
I'd be happy to discuss any other games you (or I) might be interested in. For example Layers of Fear on the App Store which is obviously meant to be scary is the same genre as Journeyman. First person problem solving game combined with dark horror.

I didn't know you were into old DOS games Rod. I played Wolfenstein for days on end when it was first released. By the way, some guy recompiled that game for the Mac but it doesn't run on anything later than Snow Leopard. It needs Rosetta. I still have a copy of the DOS version and the later Mac version.

Ditto, I guess I still am devoted to these types of games and have evolved along with the games but I still remember the early ones fondly.

Well! I downloaded the 1st episode of the jJourneyman series and have had a few chances to play. It really is a trip down memory lane. The problem solving skills required are really demanding. Even In walkthrough mode it takes several tries to accomplish the objectives of each mission.
The Scottish colonel, the turtle neck skivvies, it's right out of Star Trek and the Demoleculariser in the first part of the game that pauses to "frack" the fly in the compartment is priceless.
I'm sure I will spend many happy hours playing this game in between Metro: First Light and BioShock Infinite. That is when I'm not cycling, snorkelling, maintaining our homestay and writing on this column. Thanks for the tip.

Rod. Maybe I missed it…what sort of computer setup are you using to play a game as old as Journeyman Project?
