Hi experts,

I was wondering if there is a tool or method which i can use to reveal the dots on an application. The reason for doing so is Keychain doesn't show the password but application still holds it. I wonder if I can reveal it as I have lost it.

Please note this is not for safari password fields,
and keychain doesn't has it, only a token.

Application such as Skype still holds the password string.

Thanks!

cheers,

You'd have to be a lot more specific as to what app it is and any other details about the field it is in, but it's highly unlikely you'll be able to uncover it unless you are some l33t hacker.

It's Skype.

Still contains the password - I haven't exited it. If I quit without signing out, it still holds the password. I want to reveal it in or to recover it.

But I am curious in general. In the past I have been in to this situation where I wanted to change password by entering current password. I forgot it but it was still in one of the application (Outlook, on windows). We have such tools for Windows. I am sure there must be one for Mac?! If not, I appreciate that Mac is more secure :)

There may well be tools, but I'm not acquainted with any, nor would I really promote them. We occasionally see people here who are (or believe they are) being stalked by exes who acquired their passwords.

You can reset your Skype password here:

Fair enough and I agree it can be used in a wrong - although that will require physical presence, and admin login etc.

It's an old account and the information doesn't match. As old as 2002?! roughly. Nevermind, I will create a new account, easy to find those who were there. Just need to explain them it's me :)

Thanks.

To everyone else, if there is a way, I still think it can be helpful in situations. Private message me if posting publicly is a concern.

Much appreciated.

Firefox (for Mac) has add-ons to reveal what's behind the dots, but I haven't found a way to do this in Safari.

Very useful when the bowser insists on loading outdated passwords! :)

Hope this helps.
