Is there a way to force Safari to "go back" on right mouse down + left click and "go forward" on left mouse down + right click? Extensions, apps, native functionality etc

A warm welcome to Mac-Forums.

I'm not aware of setting the Mouse to do this; but if you go into System Preferences > Mouse > More Gestures, then check the first option "Swipe between pages", this allows you to use a single finger swipe left (to go back) and right (to go forward) when on Safari.

Would that do?

Thanks for the reply and warm welcome. I'm not using Magic Mouse at the moment, so that's not possible. I'll probably buy one, if i don't find another solution. I still prefer to use my described method because it takes less effort to click than to swipe and is faster.

I don't use a Magic Mouse, mainly because they don't work properly with my body, or brain for that matter, but my Logitech M705 Marathon Mouse sure does, and is one of the best mice I've ever used, and at a fraction of the the price of Apple's mouse attempts, and it has just the functions you're looking for available.

See the screenshot below, and I believe even their cheaper M500 series mouse and maybe some others have the same buttons for forward/backward mouse clicking.

PS: No Chas, I don't work or have any financial connection with Logitech, but sure have bought enough of their good products over the years. ;)

PPS: BTW, the USB wireless Logitech M705 Marathon Mouse batteries last for about three years without even turning it off!!!
