For the last few weeks i've had a constant problem with Safari - it's crashing/quitting with great regularity, with certain websites crashing is a guarantee (investing.com, for example).

Thought it might be my ad blocker so I uninstalled it. No resolution. I tried a different ad blocker instead. No resolution. Browser, user and system caches have been cleaned out. All cookies deleted. No other plugins/extensions to worry about. Regularly running the El Capitan version of Onyx (system cleaner/maintainer). Have used Onyx for years so I doubt the problem lies there. But the problem still persists.

Running El Capitan 10.11.6. Safari 10.0.1. 2011 Macbook Pro.

I guess I could download another browser, but I like Safari. I'd rather just resolve the problem.

Any suggestions?

Try running Recovery Mode over the MBP and then use Disk First Aid to check the state of the hard drive.

I just spent two hours going through page after page of Google search links (seems a common problem) and this was the fix:

- Turn computer off for 20 - 30 seconds.
- Turn back on, press 'shift' immediately after hearing the startup chime. This should boot you into safe mode.
- Once on this screen, no need to login - just press restart.
- Problem solved.

I knew the solution would be a simple one. Just glad to have it fixed as it's been a real thorn in my side for weeks.

I spoke too soon. A day later and Safari is back to crashing with every other page.

You probably need to reinstall Safari. However, before you get too drastic why not restore Safari from one of your Time Machine backups before the problem occurred? If no backup, you can try to completely remove Safari and reinstall it. Make sure you get all of it removed before reinstalling.
