When I make an HTML text change on a website, it seems that Safari version 18.1 (18619.2.8.111.5, 18619) is regularly slow to recognize the change. It continues to display the previous un-edited text even after clicking History>Clear history ... several times whereas Firefox 133.0 (64-bit) seems to get the message quickly, even immediately.

Is there an easy way to improve Safari's performance in this regard?

Thank you.

Instead of using Clear History, try just hitting the Reload Current Page button (the one that looks like an arrow curved into a circle) a couple of times. See if that is more efficient.

I hate to sound like a zealot, but Safari is usually a couple of steps behind other browsers, especially with regard to security. It's just an "okay" product. On the other hand, I can't recommend Brave highly enough. It's free, fast, very highly secure, has great compatibility with various odd Web sites, it's customizable (if you are into that sort of thing), and very full featured. It blocks ads without the need for an add-on. It's just a joy to use.

Brave (free)

Thank you.
Especially for the suggestion of Brave. I have it on my iMac along with other browsers (I test HTML changes on various browsers just to be sure ...) but I confess I have not taken Brave seriously. Until today.

Here are some settings that you will want to adjust first thing in Brave, to make it even more secure.

Brave menu —> Preferences —> Privacy and Security —> Site & Shield Settings —> Notifications —> enable Don’t Allow Sites To Send Notifications

go back to Site & Shield Settings —> Popups and Redirects —> enable Don't allow sites to send pop-ups or use redirects

I understand that in the latest version of Brave, that
“Notifications" is now under “Permissions"
and
"Pop-ups and redirects” is now under “Content”

A very minor point: the latest Safari is 18.1.1 (19619.2.8.111.7, 19619)

It may/may not have relevance to your problem, but worth updating it anyway.

Same sample is pretty quick with some of its updates, in fact so fast that many sites can't even keep up: 😉
What's the latest version of Safari?
Updated at: Nov 28, 2024

There are two slightly different versions of Safari: one for Desktop/Laptop computers running macOS and one for Mobile Devices (iPhones, iPads and iPods) which run iOS.

Platform Version Release Date
Safari on macOS (Laptops and Desktops) 17.4.1 2024-11-24
Safari on iOS (iPhone, iPad and iPod) 17.4.1 2024-11-24

Assuming the OP is also running the compatible macOS version. 😉

"instead of using Clear History, try ..." Will do.
"Here are some settings" Done.
"the latest Safari is" Updated minutes ago to 18.1.1 (18619.2.8.111.7, 18619)
"OP is running the compatible macOS version" Am I "OP"? If so, MacOS ver 13.7.1 (22H221)

Thank you all.
