Only had my first Mac a week (Mac Book Air), and still adjusting after 20 years of Windows use.

I have some annoyances with Safari, and wondering if anybody knows how to solve them.

First one is tabbed browsing.

When i load Safari the 'New Tab' + button on the far right of the toolbar is not present, and only appears when going to File > New Tab. How do i quickly open a new Tab without going File > New Tab like i can once i have 2 tabs open?

Second thing

I love the grid as my homepage thats shows my often used websites, very handy. But its seems random as to what i get when i open safari, even from a cold boot. Sometimes i the grid, sometimes i get 5 windows open at once with my last used sites, dispite closing them. Cannot find any preferences anywhere to force what i want.

Third of all

How do i turn off this spell checking? I keeps changing words for me, and if i am not watching closely sending some very odd sentences. Do not think its just safari, as its doing it in Outlook too. But still getting use to it OS X.

cmd-t will create a new tab.

If you click edit while viewing your topsites - you'll see a thumbtack and an X. Use those to remove or affix the sites of your choice.

The trick to getting spellcheck to not substitute words ... is to spell them properly (or at least NEARLY properly)! :)

Yes - but I know what he means. Sometimes even a typo can result in a word not flagged as misspelled but changed to something you definitely weren't intending. If you're typing a couple of paragraphs - it's easy to have a typo here and there that OS X corrupts by changing the words errantly.

Even if "spell check on the fly" saves me a little time, I'd rather run it manually and be able to look at what the software is proposing. Saving errors is a higher priority to me.

I find IOS's spell checking to do that a lot more than OSX Lions. Normally in OSX the suggestions are dead one in comparison, at least for me
