Screen brightness issue with Netflix

I have a Macbook Pro (Mid-2012) running OS X El Capitan. Whenever I watch Netflix, part of the screen becomes overexposed and turns a patchy yellow-green color. This happens only to the part of the screen that is well-lit: for example, if I'm watching an indoor scene, only the windows of the house will have this problem. The rest of the screen looks completely normal.

What could be happening? Whenever I pause the video, this effect disappears.

I actually can't—I don't know if this is a Netflix precaution but all of my screenshots turn out black.
