Screen showing negative image

Somehow my keyboard got pounded and the screen is suddenly "reversed" that is it looks like a photo negative. I have restarted the iMac but the condition persists. Please help

Sounds like you have an accessibility / high contrast theme enabled. Check System Preferences

System Preferences, Accessibility. Remove the checkmark from the box that says "Invert Colors". You didn't tell us which version of OS X you're using so the Accessibility options may be different, but that will get you in the area you need to be in to turn off the negative effect.

System Preferences, Accessibility. Remove the checkmark from the box that says "Invert Colors". You didn't tell us which version of OS X you're using so the Accessibility options may be different, but that will get you in the area you need to be in to turn off the negative effect.

Thank you for the quick reply. I am at OS 10.6.8 but do not see an Accessibility category in the System Preferences. I

Or just press and hold these 3 keys "control option command"
Then press the "8" key.
I have to use that every morning until my eyes adjust to light.

Oh, and don't forget to blame the cat. It was the cat that walked across your keyboard and triggered that inversion. :)
