Hi,

I have a mid-2011 iMac with a built in SD card slot that is running High Sierra 10.13.6.

I'm trying to read the unique serial number of a SD card (not the UUID for avoidance of doubt). DiskUtility isn't showing what I need and I've tried various Terminal commands without success.

Does anyone know if this is possible and what program or command line should I use?

Thanks.

Have you tried going into System Information, which is in your Utilities folder? It may be listed under USB, I just don't have an SD card handy to test with?

Hi. Yes I had already tried that but no luck.

The card reader is connected directly to the motherboard via PCIe so it should be able to send/receive the commands needed to extract this info.

Anything connected via USB isn't able to process these commands, whatever they maybe!

It seems that reading that data depends on a few things actually working:
See: https://www.cameramemoryspeed.com/s...ding-sd-card-cid-serial-psn-internal-numbers/
One way to read the CID is to use a laptop with an SD card slot. Card readers in laptops are usually connected directly through the PCI bus (or IDE bus). This will not work through a USB card reader because the command to retrieve the card information is intercepted and not understood by card readers. Not all computers with built-in card slots will work, some internal card readers are connected through a USB bus.

For some other suggestions, try some of the hits from here:
mac how to read the unique serial number of a SD card
https://www.bing.com/search?q=mac+h...erial+number+of+a+SD+card&form=APMCS1&PC=APMC

Who knew it would be so quirky to access the info. Cheese…

Or try using a strong magnifying glass etc.
