My apologies in advance if I've posted this in the incorrect place
I cannot remove a search topic customising a colour, from the Google search bar in Safari (letter x, camera and magnifier) After I have used a new search item thinking it would clear the old one to my frustration the old search item returns. Help wanted advice and instructions

First option. In Safari, Click on History in top menu bar and choose "Clear History". Then Quit Safari, then re-open Safari and see if that works.

If it doesn't:

The next option is to clear out your Safari Caches. It's easy to do and frequently very effective. The only drawback is that you will have to input your passwords for sites first time round.

To empty the Safari Caches, do this:

Firstly: Open Safari > Safari Preferences> Advanced and make sure that "Show Develop menu in menu bar" is ticked.

Back in Safari, go to top menu bar and Click on "Develop". From the drop down, choose "Empty Caches".

Then close out of Safari ie Quit Safari. Then re-open Safari and your problem should be gone.

Hi there Ian
Many thanks for your help with options to fix this problem. I'm afraid to say that despite your very clear instructions the offending line and accompanying text stubbornly refuses to be cleared and I am unfortunately back to square one. I wonder if there is anything else that I can try? Many thanks once again for your help.
Cheers

Is this an add-on from Google? I ask because I'm not sure what you mean by "letter x, camera and magnifier" in your post. Can you post a screenshot of this "Google search bar" for us?

You might want to try going through Apple's guide on:
Customize searching in Safari on Mac

There might be a useful suggestion there that could possibly help your problem:

As Jake suggested, a screenshot of the search area that you refer to could certainly be useful to some of us to help understand your problem.

I don't even understand what you mean by using a Google search bar in your Safari browser, or maybe I am incorrect in assuming that you are using Safari for your browser and searching.

EDIT:
Maybe check this webpage out as well:

Many thanks for all your replies. I am most grateful to all of you. I've attempted to attach the screen shot, including the search bar at the top and the result of the search below. My apologies in trying to make the details clear I have made matters worse and confusing the issue, incidentally I am not trying use an add on in Google sorry for the confusion there. When starting up from Sleep Safari opens up and insists on showing the result as above. the problem it seems still persists.

You have a Google extension added to Safari. If you don't want it, try going to Safari Preferences or Settings, Extensions and see if you can delete it from there. Google is very persistent, almost like malware, because they don't want to lose access to everything you do, so you may have to do more. But, start with eliminating it from Extensions first. If that doesn't work, let us know and we can work on getting rid of the pest for you.

Reason 14,493,190,683,345 for having ZERO to do with Google.

Hi Jake Thank you very much for your reply. I have just checked and I have no extensions listed.
I'm so grateful for your attention to my problem, hoping that we can look forward to a successful conclusion.

Well, what is in your Safari Settings (or Prefences) General Tab? What is in each box there about "Safari Opens with" and Homepage? You can also try a right click on the Safari Toolbar, the click on "Customize Toolbar," and drag the Google icon off the Toolbar back to the setup panel that will open.

And before we get much farther in this, what version of macOS are you running and what Mac is it?

Safari opens with A New Window, Home page shows
add colour to menu bar in Mac - Google Search

It’s just a guess from me, I hope this shows the offending item, is a case of modifying the Home page entry?

For your browser problem problem you mentioned in your #1 post at the start of this thread, I would suggest it is due to the homepage address you are using in your preferences setting.

I would suggest you change that address to something a bit more useful or just remove it and go to a blank page when you open your new browser window.

That should probably solve the problem you posted to in your number one post.

PS: if you need repeated access to that current particular home web page address, then I would suggest creating a separate bookmark for it.

Patrick has it correct. The easiest way I find to have a new homepage is to go to the page I want to open every time I open Safari, then open the settings to that box you showed and click on the "Set to Current Page" box to make the page that is open the new default home page.

Many thanks for all your replies, it's really been a great help in guiding me. I must admit my knowledge is limited in such matters and thank you again for all your interest and finally putting this one to rest.
