Recently installed El capitan 10.11.6 on my wife desktop. Wondering why she can no longer select multiple emails simply by dragging mouse?

Not sure this was ever possible. You select multiple emails by clicking on the first one and then hold down SHIFT and hit the end one. Or, you can hold down CMD and hit random emails.

Selecting purely my mouse click and drag depend on what is being selected. This sort of selection will definitely work for text in a browser or editor..

Thank you
I appreciate your response. it was and still is possible as i do it all the time with OS 10.7.5 and MAc mail 5.3. If it's something they took away , ok , but just wondering if it was still possible.
apparently not

I am able to select multiple emails using the shift or CMD buttons as you indicated. However, I use the "Classic" layout (Preferences/Viewing) so that may be a factor. I didn't test the default viewing option.

Jake, can you however just click and select multiple emails without holding either the SHIFT or CMD keys? In either layout when I click and move on any email the cursor changes to a envelope icon and I can drag that particular email to a separate folder..

Ashwin, what you describe is how it has worked for me for as long as I can remember. You have to hold SHIFT or CMD to select multiple. Maybe you have something in the preferences or in Accessibility set to allow other behavior?

Jake, OK, so I'm not imagining random things then. We are both in agreement with how this is working. My quick look through the Accessibility settings didn't show anything that would change this behavior.

I think the change came about with Yosemite, but I am not positive as I am running Sierra. I also remember being able to click and drag to select emails and move into folders. I just switched to cleaning and organizing all my email accounts to once a year now.
