Hello everyone. I have a simple question. Coming from Windows, I always had all extensions on. On Mac, I have done the same thing on the Finder preferences, but the .app extension is unsightly. Is there any way to hide just this extension? PS On the Get Info screen, the Hide Extension is greyed out if in the Finder preferences you have set all extensions to be shown. Thanks

You can only turn this off globally - just uncheck 'show all extensions' in finder prefs. Even with that unchecked you should see most document file extensions elsewhere in Finder unless you've specifically saved them with the 'hide extension' flag turned on (supported by most Cocoa apps).
You can't hide only .app extension.

Yeah, but many .dmgs come with files whose .rtf extensions are hidden, and I'd have to change them individually. Is there like an AppleScript that would go to all files and set them to uncheck Hide Extension? The .app hide extension is greyed out anyway, so it doesn't matter.
